Leah Farnsworth Bassett

June 1, 1928 — September 6, 2019

Murray Utah

Leah F. Bassett, age 91, passed away peacefully at home, September 6, 2019, due to natural causes.

She was born June 1, 1928 in Mountain Home UT, to Philo T. and Hazel Thayne Farnsworth.
She married Gerald G. Bassett, Jr. in the Salt Lake Temple on February 16, 1961.

Leah spent her time raising her three children and working on numerous projects, from sewing and crafting to gardening, woodworking to genealogy. She attended school plays, band concerts, football, softball and soccer games. It seems she took the adage “idle hands are the devil’s workshop” quite literally.

She enjoyed her extended family! Family reunions were painstakingly planned for and eagerly anticipated events. Full of fun, they always resulted in great memories.

In addition to her family and creative outlets, Leah was also very active in The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. She served many callings, including primary teacher, Relief Society President and counselor in the Stake Relief Society, homemaking instructor and family history consultant. She was a dedicated visiting teacher, it seemed once you were on her list, you stayed on it, even if the formal assignment changed.

She was an exceptionally kind person, who loved everyone she met and was a friend to all. If you were close to her, you were as good as family. Everyone received a hug, and when she told you she loved you, there was no question she meant it.

Leah is survived by one brother, Franklin Dee (Eileen) Farnsworth, of Grace ID: sister-in-law Linda (Durell) Farnsworth; her three children, Craig Bassett (Jennavee Nakai), of South Salt Lake, Traci (Scot) Tolman, of Las Vegas NV, and Dallin (Ryann) Bassett, of Salt Lake City; three grandchildren, Douglas Tolman, of Salt Lake City, Amy (Andrew) Gonzalez, of St. George UT and Beaumont Bassett of South Salt Lake; and thousands of cousins, nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband Jerry; brothers Rex, Leo, Clair, Lon and Durell; and sisters Afton, Grace, Laura and Veloy.

Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m., Friday, September 13, 2019, at The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints meeting house on 619 West 5750 South, Murray, Utah 84123, with visitation to be held Thursday evening from 6-8:00 p.m. and Friday, from 9-10:30 a.m. Interment will be in the Mountain Home-Boneta Cemetery under the direction of the Hullinger Mortuary and McDougal Funeral Home. Flowers may be delivered to McDougal Funeral Home, 4330 S. Redwood Road, Taylorsville, Utah 84123.

The family would like to thank the Signature Home Health and Hospice employees for their tender care of Leah.
