Lawrence Durrans

June 28, 1942 — October 21, 2023

Lawrence Ross Durrans, 81, was born June 28, 1942, and passed away on October 21, 2023. He is the son of Ross Inman Durrans and Lorene Crow Durrans.

Larry married his high school sweetheart, Shirley Van Katwyk, on July 19, 1965. Their marriage was later solemnized in the Logan Utah Temple on July 19, 1966, for time and all eternity.

Larry retired from the Newspaper Agency where he worked for many, many years, starting at a young age of seventeen.  After retirement, Larry loved to travel the world with his wife Shirley. For many years they spent their winters in Southern California where the weather was sunny and warm.

Both Larry and Shirley volunteered for stake youth summer camps, cooking delicious meals for all the youth and their leaders.

Larry is thanked for the countless hours he spent serving his family, friends, neighbors, and ward members. Larry is also deeply appreciated for his time serving in the Armed Forces and his time spent in Vietnam.

Larry is preceded in death by his parents Ross Inman and Lorene Crow Durrans, as well as his brothers Lynn Durrans and Charles Atkinson; sister Zona Durrans Parkinson; spouses of siblings Peggy Allen Atkinson (Charles), Dale Parkinson (Zona), Ray Baxter (Barbara), and Don Christy (Barbara); and his grandson Chris Woods.

Larry is survived by his loving wife Shirley, and his son Wayne (Monica) Durrans.  He is also survived by two grandkids, Tyler and Jason; two great-grandkids, Ben and Elle; siblings, Robert (Ruth) Durrans, Barbara Christy, Gerald (Lanola) Durrans, Richard (Margaret) Durrans, Raymond (Susann) Durrans, and sister-in-law Verlene Durrans (Lynn).

We would also like to thank all the amazing family members, neighbors, doctors, and nurses who cared for Larry in his time of need.

A viewing will be held on Wednesday, November 1, 2023, at 10:00 a.m. The funeral service will follow at 11:00 a.m. at the Taylorsville 23rd ward house located at 4932 South 3200 West, Taylorsville, Utah.
