Listen to Obituary

Larry Vern Prina, 85, of Magna, Utah, passed away peacefully on April 3, 2026, surrounded by his beloved wife and children. Larry was born on July 8, 1940, in Eureka, Nevada, to Angelo Caesar Prina and Verna Eomia Lauritzen. He graduated from White Pine High School and later attended BYU, where he earned his bachelor's degree.

Larry worked at the Ely Library, the Salt Lake County Library, and the Utah Historical Society before spending 25 years with the Deseret News, hand-delivering papers to many members of the Church presidency and building lasting friendships along the way. On November 5, 1976, he married Arlene Westwood. Together, they raised three cherished children: Donavon, Russell, and Monica.

Larry touched the lives of everyone he met. He loved history, astronomy, basketball, and time with friends, but most of all he loved his family and the gospel. He was known for his hook shot, his love of books, his thirst for knowledge, his incredible memory, and his unwaveringly positive attitude through everything life brought his way. He is survived by his wife, Arlene; his children, Donavon, Russell, and Monica; his brothers, Peter, David, and Robert; his grandchildren, Riley, Tucker, and Hudson; and a great-grandchild on the way.

A viewing will be held Friday, April 10, 2026, at MacDougal Funeral Home (4330 South Redwood Road Taylorsville, Utah) from 6:00-8:00 p.m.
