Listen to Obituary

Kris Campbell passed away on Saturday, March 28, 2026. She was born on February 18, 1952, the fifth of nine children of Sam and Gloria Bangerter.

Sam and Gloria created a home where Kris developed a sharp mind, a beautiful spirit, a love for others and a love for the Gospel of Jesus Christ. She felt deeply connected to her immediate and extended family in this life and revered her deceased ancestors who played a key role in the person she would become.

Kris loved Granger (now West Valley City) where she grew up and lived all but a couple of years of her life. Following graduation from high school, Kris attended BYU. Following her time at BYU, Kris was working in Salt Lake City.

A mutual friend said to John, "If you will just meet Kris, I promise that you will marry her." After meeting Kris for the first time, John told his older sister, "I know it sounds crazy, but Kris is the girl I will marry." The things about Kris that were so compelling to John were her natural beauty, her positive view of the world, and her strength of character. She loved children and looked forward to having a large family. After just a few weeks of many conversations about life, goals, and gospel doctrine, Kris reached the same conclusion about marrying. In August 1975, twelve weeks after they had met, Kris and John were sealed together in the Salt Lake Temple. Last summer the entire Campbell family enjoyed a wonderful vacation together to celebrate their 50th wedding anniversary.

It was her nature to help others with struggles in addition to serving in responsibilities in the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. Examples included helping a neighbor prepare to become a U.S. citizen, taking in a neighbor family following a house fire, or providing daily care for a nephew for weeks following a car accident.

Her gentle and sweet personality resonated with children. She was their advocate and friend. Various times Kris would address teachers or others who were unkind or unfair toward her own children or other children. She was a good listener, a peacemaker and problem solver. Many sought out her counsel and advice for difficult personal problems.

She would rather spend money on others than on herself. The day before she was rushed to the hospital for the last time, she struggled to sew a doll for Kara Kristine Campbell, her 5-year-old granddaughter. Her children and grandchildren will always remember her for her unconditional love and generosity.

Since 2021 Kris battled the effects of a double lung transplant, stroke, kidney failure and their complications. All who knew her would comment on the strength of her will to live. Kris used the phrase often: "The main thing is that life is more interesting than the pain." A great sadness for her was that she felt so limited in her ability to serve others. Despite her own continual pain and limitations, she prayed with great energy for others she knew were sad or struggling. Despite the intense sadness we feel in losing Kris' personal presence for a time, we delight in knowing she is free from all the ravages of poor health and is now reunited with those loved ones on the other side of the veil who have been waiting for her.

There will be a public viewing for Kris on Thursday, April 2nd from 6:00 to 8:00 PM at McDougal Funeral Home located at 4330 South Redwood Road, Taylorsville, UT 84123. On Friday, April 3rd there will be another viewing and funeral service for Kris at the Granger Ward building located at 2850 West 3835 South, West Valley City. Following the funeral, Kris will be interred at the Valley View Cemetery located at 4335 West 4100 South, West Valley City.
