Kathy Lynne Dayley Byington
Age: 66
From: West Jordan, Utah
Death Date/Location: July 7th, 2026 Albuquerque, NM
Kathy was born in Logan, Utah to Carroll Fred and LaDean Durfee Dayley on February 25th, 1960. She was their second born child. When she was 2 years old, her family moved to Heyburn, Idaho where she was raised. She attended Heyburn Elementary, West Minico Jr. High, and graduated from Minico High School in 1978. She played the flute from grade school to high school, rising to the top of her class.
She graduated from Ricks College in 1980 and went on to attend BYU in Provo where she majored in outdoor recreation and youth leadership. She shared the love of the outdoors with young girls at Oakcrest where they knew her as "Taffy".
While at home from college during the summer she met Gary Lee Byington at a church activity that they both swore they'd never attend. While she was umpiring the softball game at that activity, she definitely let Gary know how unimpressed she was, but later that evening he changed her mind, and she told her friend she would go out with him before the month was over. It didn't take a month, they went out later that week, and dated the rest of the summer, until she went on a 30 day BYU Survival Camp. Absence made the heart grow fonder, and Gary proposed to her the day she got back. They were married 4 months later in the Salt Lake City Temple of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter- day Saints.
After their marriage, they left school to join the family fencing business and wanted to start a family of their own. They struggled starting a family of their own because of medical issues. Due to the miracle of modern medicine and 36 hours of labor they were blessed with their son Brodie James. During the time of her pregnancy, they moved to Utah to start fresh and that is where she would spend the rest of her life.
She was heavily involved in the PTA from elementary to high school from the local level to the regional level. This is where she met some lifelong friends that she considered sisters. She loved helping the children in the elementary school lunch room for 10+ years until she got the opportunity to work as an office manager at an engineering firm. For the next 18 years she was an integral part of the company and helped keep the engineers in line. She loved the work and the people and was able to retire from a place that she loved.
After she retired she continued doing all the things she loved such as gardening, BYU games, traveling, camping, and spending time with her granddaughters.
During Brodie's high school years, she was instrumental in starting up the boys and girls lacrosse programs at West Jordan High School. She loved those boys and girls as her own as well as their parents.
She overcame severe dyslexia as a young child to become a voracious speed reader. She shared her love of reading for over 30 years with women she loved in a book club.
As a life long member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter- day Saints she held many different callings in which she always did her best to make sure that everyone felt loved and included. She loved the Savior and even in her last days, she helped those around her to feel his love. She touched many lives.
She was preceded in death by her Father, Mother, and brother Kenneth Dean Dayley. She is survived by her loving husband Gary Byington, and son Brodie (Ashlee) Byington, granddaughters Paisley, Baylee, and Kenlie Byington. She also leaves behind her brother Dwayne (Kelly) Dayley, and sister Susan (Larry) Gee.
Funeral Services are TBD.
