Katherine Ellen Richins (Kathy)
Kathy Richins, 81, passed away surrounded by loved ones at her home in St. George, Utah on August 20, 2026. Kathy was born on May 20, 1945, in Salt Lake City, Utah, to Leona R. Rollins and Ralph I. Westerberg. The youngest of five children, she was dearly loved and adored by her older siblings from the very beginning. Her mother, whom she considered her hero, instilled in her the strength, dignity, and strong principles that would guide her throughout her life.
As a young woman, Kathy enjoyed dancing, theater, cheerleading, basketball, and horseback riding. She also believed deeply in the power of education and pursued her studies at both the University of Utah and Westminster College.
Kathy worked a variety of jobs before she started her career as a secretary and accountant for the Salt Lake County Public Utilities, where she worked until her retirement. It was there that she met the love of her life, Dallas Leo Richins. They married on April 25, 1981, and she gained not only a loving partner, but a family that she loved as her own and often referred to as 'the highlight of my life'. Together, they loved to travel, spend time at their cabin, cheer on the Utah Jazz, and spoil their grandchildren. Their marriage was later solemnized in the Jordan River Temple in November of 1997.
Kathy leaves behind her step-daughters, Robyn (Gary) Curtis, and Laura (Rex) Dipo, sister-in-law, Sharon Hepworth, 18 grandchildren, 34 great-grandchildren, and 20 great-great-grandchildren, with one more on the way. Also, many close nieces and nephews. She is preceded in death by her sweetheart, Dallas, two step-children, Ralph and Dallene, grandson, Logan, father, Ralph, and beloved mother, Leona, and siblings, Louise, Glen, Sherman, and Eugene.
Family and friends may call at the McDougal Funeral Home at 4330 S Redwood Road, Taylorsville, Utah on Thursday, August 27, 2026, at 12:00 pm. A viewing will be held prior to the funeral at 11:00 am.
She will be laid to rest alongside her beloved husband and family at Centerville Cemetery in Centerville, Utah.
