Karen Johnston Stewart: August 13, 1936 to March 5, 2026
Karen was born in Provo, Utah to Frances Miles and Ardis Muhlestein Johnston. She married Lewis William Stewart (Bill) on June 11, 1955, in the St. George Temple. She lived in several states growing up attending twelve schools in her younger years before attending BYU.
She continued her travels as an Air Force wife living in Las Vegas, Nevada, Boise, Idaho and Okinawa before settling in Taylorsville, Utah in 1962.
She was The Avon Lady for 40 years where she made many friends in her community. She enjoyed swimming and weight lifting at the Fountain of Youth Health Club for many years.
One of her life highlights was three weeks spent in England traveling with her mother and her daughter at the conclusion of Ardis's LDS mission.
She enjoyed many church callings over the years including Seminary teacher and Young Women President while in her 70's.
Bill purchased an old home in the mining town of Mammoth, Utah in 1982. She split her time between Mammoth and Taylorsville until his death in 2015. They were involved in the communities of Mammoth and Eureka. They were selected as Senior Citizens of the year for Eureka in 2013.
Her most important job was that of a housewife and mother to eight adorable children. (Of course it's adorable children writing this obituary.)
She is survived by her children, Ray (Lisa) of Erda, Utah, Miles (Eileen) of LaBarge Wyoming, Ardis (Scott) Ryberg of Bentonville, Arkansas, Alma (Vicki) Sioux Falls, South Dakota, Shane (Robin) of Lake Point, Utah, Amanda (Randy) Covington, Loa, Utah, Anne (Jeff) Yates of Overland Park, Kansas, Kim Stewart, Taylorsville, Utah. Also, Thirteen grandchildren and Nineteen great grand children.
Preceded in death by her parents, husband Bill, and her brother John Johnston.
She is remembered for making holidays special, especially birthdays. She made great meals using the family garden, deer and elk from hunting including fish caught on family trips. She spent countless hours canning fruit, meat, and making jellies, preserves and juice. She was the canning Queen.
Services to celebrate her life will be held Thursday, March 12 at the Taylorsville 19 th ward chapel. 2030 West Chateau Ave., Taylorsville Utah.Viewing 10;00-10:45. Services at 11:00.
Internment 3:00 at Eureka Cemetery. 1668 West, Clay Pit Road. Eureka, Utah.
