Kade Michael Wetzel

August 12, 2014 — November 30, 2019

Kade Michael Wetzel, our sweet angel, passed away in his parents arms November 30, 2019. Kade was born August 12, 2014 in Salt Lake City. Our family was fortunate to be able to be able to bring him home from the NICU at Primary Children’s Hospital. We had the honor of adopting him April 29, 2015.

Kade’s life was not always easy, but he met life with the strongest spirit and warmest smile anyone ever saw or felt. When he was young, he would squeal the highest and loudest happy squeal, that sounded like the velociraptors in Jurassic Park. When he was still young, he had trouble breathing and had to have a tracheotomy. From that time forward, though he no longer had a physical voice, his smile and his sweet loving spirit would fill up any room he came into.

Kade loved to be outside in the sunshine, feeling the warm sun on his face. He enjoyed car rides, going on the train at the zoo, going to school and church. He especially loved music, with singing at school or at church, his whole face and body would smile. He loved and enjoyed being around his brothers and sisters and loved many wonderful people in his short life. He loved swimming as long as the water was warm and taking walks with his family and Mom whenever the weather was warm.

Kade was able to go to preschool for two years at Bastian Elementary, and truly enjoyed his time there, he would squeal for his nurse Rosalee Beard each and every day of school and loved to be around his nurse, teachers, and friends.

We were fortunate to be able to take Kade to Disneyland and Sea World and visiting the Redwood Forest, and many trips to Bear Lake. Kade loved all of our trips, but especially loved everything with Mickey Mouse.

We were fortunate to adopt Kade’s sister Autumn, and he was able to spend a full year getting to know her. She shares his smile and love for Disney and will help us to have a part of Kade with us wherever we go.

Kade was only able to attend Kindergarten for a short time at Kauri Sue Elementary, but had a wonderful nurse Brenda to watch over him and he enjoyed the wheel chair races and spending time with his class.

Kade had wonderful people take care of him throughout his short life, from the amazing doctors and nurses at Primary Children’s Hospital, to his physical therapists, Pat Boyle for the first couple of years and Cari Forman for the last couple of years before school. His wonderful doctors, Doctor Brogli and Doctor Dangerfield. For the last few months he was watched over and take care of by Intermountain Hospice, especially his Nurse Natalie Brown. We truly appreciate the love and care that each of them were able to give him.

Kade was granted a wish through Make a Wish, which would originally have been Disney World, but as his time grew closer, we knew he would not make it for the trip, but was given a wonderful party from Make a Wish with Mickey and Minnie Mouse, and all of his family around. Kade truly enjoyed the party.

We were fortunate to be able to meet with Elder Holland through this experience and he showed great love and care to Kade in this visit, giving him kisses on the head, and gave Kade gifts that his family will treasure forever.

Kade touched everyone that he came in contact with and left an impression with each of those he met.

His joy and smile would light up every room. He will continue to watch over his family and be the light in our lives and be our angel forever. We will forever miss his wonderful smile and the joy he brought to each of us will leave a hole in our hearts. We will treasure the many happy memories and carry them with us each day.

Kade is survived by his parents, Mike and Kim Wetzel; brothers and sisters, Caleb, Oakley, Andrew, and Autumn. His grandparents Paul and Shauna Wetzel, Robert and Sol Vanfleet, and Lisa and Steve Sharples; and his aunts; uncles; and many cousins that each loved him and would watch out for him. We love and appreciate each of them for the care and kindness they have shown to Kade throughout his life.
