June Elaine Selk Babcock, 87, beloved wife, mother, grandmother, sister, and friend left this earth peacefully on June 3, 2025, at her residence, surrounded by family.
She was born on September 11, 1937, and raised on the prairies of Southern Alberta, Canada, by a loving, kind, and patient mother. She came to Salt Lake at age 20 and both loved the Utah mountains and cherished her Canadian heritage.
She served in the Royal Canadian Air Force and graduated from LDS Business College.
She married Varlin Reed Babcock in the Logan Temple of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints on August 3, 1962. Four daughters blessed their lives. Kristine's (1964-65) and Shannon's (1969-1970) stays on the earth were brief. She looked forward to a happy reunion with them.
She said that daughters Alisyn and Sharon were answers to her prayers: "For these children I prayed and the Lord hath granted me my petition what I asked of Him" (1 Samuel 1:27-28)".
She loved being Nana to her grandchildren Erin Christensen (Will), Elise Lima (Gabriel), Connor Rogerson (Amy Draughon), and Jenise, Ty, and Jayson Broadhead.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Varlin Reed Babcock, daughters Kristine and Shannon Babcock, parents Mildred Baker and Owen Christian Selk, siblings Gordon, Helen May, Lila Marie, Frank Arnold Baker, Viola, Owen Christian, Roy, and Howard Melvin Selk.
She leaves behind daughters, Alisyn Rogerson (Ken) and Sharon Broadhead, six grandchildren, and five great-grandchildren.
Funeral services will be held Saturday, June 7, 2025, 10:30 a.m., at The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, located at 5000 West Pavant Avenue, West Valley City, Utah. Friends may greet the family from 9:45-10:15 a.m. that morning. The burial will be alongside husband Reed and her two baby girls, Kristine and Shannon, at Larkin Sunset Gardens, 1950 East 10600 South, Sandy, Utah.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to St. Jude Children's Hospital, an organization Elaine admired and supported (https://www.stjude.org/give.html).
Elaine asked that these words be added to her obituary: "To my family and friends, I take with me many memories. To anyone with unkind feelings toward me I ask your forgiveness. I'm leaving those I love to be with those I love."
