Joseph Dwight Camp, affectionately known to everyone as "JD," passed away peacefully on June 28, 2026, in his daughter's home in Herriman, Utah, surrounded by the love of his family. He was 75 years old.
Born on November 2, 1950, in Malad, Idaho, to Alden and Coleen Camp, JD grew up with a large, vibrant family. He learned the value of hard work early on - a trait that would define much of his life.
JD enlisted in the United States Army and proudly served his country during the Vietnam War, beginning a lifetime of dedication to public service. He went on to spend decades working for the United States Postal Service, ultimately receiving a prestigious award honoring his remarkable 50 years of civil service.
To say JD was a hard worker is an understatement. He raised his four children while balancing multiple jobs, never wavering in his dedication to his family. Yet, despite the long hours and endless responsibilities, JD's home was always filled with warmth, creativity, and laughter.
JD had a quick wit, a fantastic sense of humor, and a deeply artistic soul. He was incredibly talented with his hands, whether he was dashing off one of his signature fun sketches or shaping clay into something remarkable. His holiday sculpted trains became the stuff of family legend - always best sellers and famous for sparking spirited bidding wars at family reunion auctions.
When he wasn't working, creating art, or caring for his family, JD loved to hit the golf course. He was also a lifelong sports fan; though he held a special place in his heart for the Atlanta Braves - a devotion that ran as long as anyone can remember - he would happily watch just about any game that was on television.
Above all, JD was a loving and devoted father, grandfather, and great-grandfather. He treasured every moment spent with the younger generations, who lovingly knew him as "Camps" and "Grandpa Tricky" - nicknames that perfectly captured his fun-loving, creative, and mischievous spirit.
JD is survived by his four children: Jeremy (Courtney), Toby (Michelle), Hannah (Gary), and Nick (Olga); his 9 grandchildren and 5 great-grandchildren; his brothers, Jerry and Blair; and his sisters, Aldene, Lynette, Marilee, and Alice. He was preceded in death by his parents, Alden and Coleen, and his brothers, Jim and Ron.
His legacy of unwavering devotion, hard work, art, and laughter will live on in the hearts of his family forever.
