Joan Carol Hansen

Joan Carol Milius Hansen passed away peacefully in the early morning hours of August 31, 2026, at the age of 93.

Joan was born on February 6, 1933, in Salt Lake City, Utah, to Willie and Margaret Milius, both German immigrants. She was the only daughter in the family with two brothers, Vernon and Raymond. She grew up on Goshen Street near the Jordan River and attended West High School.

On October 14, 1955, Joan married Ross Almar Hansen in the Salt Lake Temple. Together they raised six children.

Joan worked for many years at the ZCMI warehouse, both as a shipping clerk and in the cafeteria, before her retirement in 1991.

After retiring, Joan became active at the Kearns Senior Center, where she made many wonderful friends and developed new interests, and traveled. She enjoyed Tai Chi and Sit and Be Fit and led the ceramics class for several years.

Joan was a faithful member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. She loved serving in the Church, whether it was with the children in Junior Sunday School or Primary or alongside the women of the Relief Society, where she twice served as president. She was a caring Visiting Teacher and Ministering Sister. Service and devotion defined the way she lived.

Joan's family is grateful to the caregivers and friends who blessed her life. She will be deeply missed and joyfully reunited with those who went before her.

Joan is survived by her six children: David (Charlene) Hansen, Dennis (Vicki) Hansen, Donna (Michael) Gregory, Duane Hansen, Darrell Hansen (Rand Barker), and DeAnn Hansen; 15 grandchildren; and 26 great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Ross Almar Hansen; her parents, Willie and Margaret Milius; and her brothers, Vernon and Raymond Milius.
