Jennifer Frances Cheney Trost

August 14, 1954 - July 15, 2026

 Jennifer Frances Cheney Trost, (Jen or Jenny) 71, of Taylorsville, Utah was welcomed home by her Lord and Savior in the early morning hours of July 15, 2026, after a sudden illness, in the company of her loving family.

 Jenny was born and raised in Walnut Creek, California; the youngest child of Frances Powell and Hal Cannon Cheney. She graduated from Pleasant Hill High School and Diablo Valley College before earning a Bachelor of Science Degree in Nursing from California State University, Hayward. She pursued her nursing career for over 30 years, beginning with her first job at Alta Bates Hospital in Berkeley and continuing at a variety of medical facilities throughout the West including stints in Oregon and Hawaii. 

 After moving to Centerville, Utah to be near her parents in 1994, she settled in at the University of Utah Hospital where she specialized in high-risk pregnancies. She was the "go to" nurse in many situations because of her years of clinical experience, compassion and fluency in Spanish.

Jen was the consummate adventurer, never to be deterred, enthusiastically engaging in open water swimming and windsurfing in the Pacific Ocean along the California and Oregon Coast as well as in Cancun, Cozumel, Cabo San Lucas and La Ventana, Mexico. Additionally, she was a highly accomplished pianist, artist, and chef - much to her family's delight.

Jen was a devoted disciple of Jesus Christ, and faithfully attended Lifechurch in West Valley City, Utah. She lived her faith every single day by first and foremost ceaselessly loving and advocating for her children. Additionally, she personified the Sermon on the Mount by partnering with her husband in providing for the most vulnerable and disadvantaged at the Rescue Mission of Salt Lake, the Gospel Rescue Mission (Tucson, AZ), Good News Community Church (Tucson, AZ), and most recently the Christian Migrant Network.

 Jen is survived by her husband, Stephen Trost, her two children, Utah Juan Lizama and Arian Frances Lizama, as well as her sister, Lillian Cheney Brown. She was the proud and devoted grandmother to five grandchildren: Wynrey, Clarah, Leon, Soul Lizama and Vanellope Madplume, as well as numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.

 She was preceded in death by her parents, sister Mary Sue Cheney Dreyer and brother Rowland Hal Cheney.

 A Celebration of Her Life will be conducted at McDougal Funeral Home located at 4330 South Redwood Road, Taylorsville, Utah on Thursday, July 23, 2026, at 11 a.m. with a luncheon immediately following.
