Janice Lee Schaerrer Hansen, 88, of Salt Lake City, passed away peacefully in her sleep on Sunday, August 25, 2024. In the days before her passing, she had the precious opportunity to visit with all four of her sons, a comfort that brought her peace as she awaited her homecoming with her beloved husband, Bruce; a reunion she had longed for.
Janice was born May 2, 1936, to John Ronald Schaerrer and Frances Amy Brandt in Payson, Utah. After moving to Salt Lake City, she graduated from West High School in 1954.
Janice met the love of her life through the back fence at age 10. They were later wed in the Salt Lake LDS Temple on June 10, 1954, and began building their life together with four boys: Douglas, Darrel, David, and Donald.
Bruce and Janice were married for 67 wonderful years, sharing a partnership admired by all who knew them. Together they raised their four sons, who were the pride and joy of her life. Her devotion to her family was unwavering, and she found immense joy in being a loving wife, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother.
Janice also played a significant role in helping raise some of her grandchildren, passing on her values of love and kindness. She was always willing to help her family through hard times, offering enduring support and comfort when it was needed most. Her strength and resilience were an inspiration to all who knew her.
In addition to being a devoted mother and housewife, Janice worked for a survey company and OC Tanner for 20 years.
Known for her kind and gentle spirit, Janice touched the lives of many with her warmth and generosity.
Blessed with a beautiful singing voice, Janice was often requested to sing in church and for funerals. Her talent was a cherished gift to all who heard it.
Janice was a faithful member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. She held many callings throughout her life including being in the Relief Society Presidency, Primary Presidency, Chorister, Sunday School teacher, and Librarian. She also sang in the choir and played the piano.
Janice was an enthusiastic supporter of her family's involvement in the Highland games. She enjoyed cheering on her husband, sons, and grandsons in The Salt Lake Scots, watching her granddaughters compete in Highland Dancing, while she and Bruce participated in Scottish Country dancing.
She is preceded in death by her parents, John and Frances; husband, Bruce; sister Lillian Joan Flygare (Grant); daughter-in-law, Laurie; and many aunts, uncles, grandparents, and cousins.
