Our husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, and friend passed away in his sweetheart's arms on May 28, 2026. Born in Rexburg, Idaho in the backseat of a car, Jim's life continued to be an incredible story. At the age of 17 Jim enlisted in the United States Navy and soon found himself serving two tours in Vietnam and spending time on Adak, Alaska, a place that captivated his soul.
Jim's life of adventure continued with a love of traditional bowhunting, backpacking, fishing, camping, white water canoeing, and other activities he shared with those he loved. After retiring as a crane operator, Jim spent most of his time in a small ranching community in Southwestern Montana. While there, his days were filled with predator and varmint control, cutting firewood for his family and those in the community that couldn't provide for themselves, working cattle, and doing any other tasks his friends needed him for.
Nothing made Jim happier than sharing all of these activities with his spouse, children, grandchildren, and friends.
Jim's life touched many people in many places. From church service at the Utah State Penitentiary and women's jail facility to sharing his change jar with strangers, it is likely much of the immense good Jim did will only be known to him and those who received his care, concern, and generosity.
Jim was preceded in death by his parents, Blaine Rose and Yvonne Freeman Rose and sisters Ann Shimizu and Elizabeth Rose. Jim is survived by his beloved wife, Carol, and children Matthew Rose (Samantha), Jamie Moser (Andrew), Justin Nielson (Sarah), Holly Prows, and Sam Rose (Michelle). Jim is also survived by 17 grandchildren, three great grandchildren, and sisters Pamela Saunders (Jimmy), Susan Galloway, and Jane Cain.
The family also extends gratitude to doctors Stephen Miller and Benjamin Solomon. Doctors Miller and Solomon connected with Jim and provided exceptional care and compassion in a difficult time.
