Jack Clifford Cowan, Jr.

August 27, 1948 - August 13, 2026

Jack, age 77, passed away peacefully in his sleep on August 13, 2026.

Jack was born on August 27, 1948. He attended Skyline High School and proudly served his country in the United States Army Reserves. On September 25, 1970, he married the love of his life, Vickie Rowley. They were later sealed for time and all eternity on September 24, 1983.

Jack believed in the value of work and doing what was needed to be done. He drove a truck for Associated Food Stores and later worked as a dispatcher for James H. Clark and Sons. He eventually drove a school bus for Jordan School District, following in the footsteps of both his father and his older sister. He carried a lifetime of stories from the road, from work, and from the countless people he met along the way.

Jack's passion was square dancing. He was a square dance caller for 44 years. He loved traveling, working in the yard, watching NASCAR, IHRA drag racing, and Hallmark movies, and most of all, making memories with his family. Some of his favorite adventures took him to Yellowstone, Glacier National Park, Hawaii, and Mount Rushmore. He also appreciated life's simple pleasures: a Snickers bar, a Coke, a bowl of popcorn, and the company of his beloved girls, Lilly and Sugar.

Jack was a husband, father, grandfather, brother, father-in-law, and friend to everyone he knew, but those titles only begin to explain what he meant to the people who loved him. He had a way of making people feel comfortable and welcome, and he could talk to just about anyone. He made friends wherever he went, and once you were his friend, you were a friend for life.

Jack is survived by his wife, Vickie; his children, Jack (JC) Cowan III, Timothy (Stephanie) Cowan, and Angela (Matt) Dignan; his siblings, Joe (Davie) Cowan, George Cowan, and Deanna Cowan (Chad); his 14 grandchildren; and his beloved Shih-tzus, Lilly and Sugar.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Jack and Esther, his older sister Penny, and his granddaughter, Ella Pauline Dignan.

A viewing will be held Saturday, August 22, 2026, from 10:00 to 11:45 a.m. at The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints chapel located at 8137 S Echo View Drive, West Jordan, Utah 84081, just off 8200 South. Funeral services will begin at noon and will last approximately one hour. Interment will follow immediately afterward at Redwood Memorial Estates Cemetery, 6500 S Redwood Road, West Jordan, Utah 84084.

Jack will be deeply missed, frequently quoted, lovingly remembered, and never truly gone from the family he helped build. If you knew Jack, you knew he was larger than life. He was a good conversationalist, a great hugger, and had an infectious laugh. Jack was a friend for life, one you could count on in a time of need and one you could pick up the phone and call anytime.
