Herminia Calautti

September 28, 1929 — April 5, 2023

Herminia Calautti passed away on April 5, 2023, at the age of 93 surrounded by loved ones. She was born in Buenos Aires, Argentina, on September 28, 1929, to Italian immigrants Nicodemo Pasquale Calautti-Zaccò and Maria Carmela Fazzolari and was the youngest of 5 children. She was a beloved mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, sister, and friend.

In her early years, Herminia loved to be busy. If she wasn't helping her mom around the home, she was working alongside her father in the family shoe shop. At 17, her life took a different turn when she met and immediately fell in love with Raul De Santi. Together, they had four children, Raul (Rulo), Nora, Deborah, and Diana, to which she devoted and dedicated her life to caring for them. Through their marriage, Herminia always stood by Raul's side, through all his creative business endeavors, and even when he decided to move the family from Buenos Aires, Argentina, to Los Angeles, California, in 1956 and then back to Buenos Aires a few years later. Although they later divorced, her love and dedication to the fruits of their marriage, their children, never wavered.

Herminia was a devoted mother who spent her life caring for her children and creating a loving home for her family. She was known for her kind and generous nature, and her love extended beyond her immediate family to all those who knew her. She enjoyed spending time with her family, and her home was always open to friends, loved ones, or anyone who was looking for a piece of chocolate!

In no place was this generous nature more present, than during her countless years of dedicated service as a member and missionary for The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints, first as a missionary in Bahia Blanca, Argentina, and later as a temple missionary in the Buenos Aires, Argentina, Temple. When serving a mission was no longer a possibility due to her age, Herminia could be found at home listening to her favorite Tango as she knitted handmade socks for anyone who had feet that needed warmth. Year after year, her favorite Christmas tradition was knitting hundreds of socks to donate to local charities across the Salt Lake Valley.

Herminia is survived by her children, Raul (Silvia), Nora (Oscar), Deborah, and Diana (Mauricio); eight grandchildren, 23 great-grandchildren, and one great-great-granddaughter. She was preceded in death by both of her parents, her siblings, Felipe, Jose, Angel, and Aurora, and her beloved great-grandson Andrew.

Funeral services will be held Tuesday, April 11, 2023, at McDougal Funeral Home, 4330 South Redwood Road, Taylorsville, Utah. Viewing will be from 10:00 - 10:45 AM followed by Memorial Services at 11:00 AM.

Herminia will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved her. Although our last pair of socks will soon wither away, our hearts will forever be full because she loved us. Mi querida. Cuándo yo te vuelva a ver, No habrá más penas ni olvido...
