Helen Maureen Cornwell Smith

12-07-1947 - 11-10-2023

In loving memory of

Helen Maureen Cornwell Smith passed away into the loving arms of her Savior Jesus Christ after a long harrowing illness.

Maureen was adopted along with her brother Richard Cornwell and raised by their parents Wilmer J. (Bill) and Helen M Cornwell, all 3 who preceded her in death. Their first home was in the small town of Milton Freewater, Oregon where they were taught the basics of hard work and being with a loving family. When she started school they moved to Walla Walla, Washington and that is where the family settled.

Her parents purchased and ran Larry's Motel. This is where Maureen learned and grew her fabulous work ethic, working side by side with her brother and parents to make a successful living running the motel. That work ethic stayed with her throughout her life and she instilled those values in her children.

She started her small family in 1966 with the birth of her first child, Cheryl A Jackson and added a son in 1968, James L Reece Jr. In 1974 Maureen took a leap of faith and moved away from family and settled in Salt Lake City, Utah. Then in 1977 moved to West Valley (Hunter). This is where she remained until her passing.

Family, the church and friends were her passion. She was her children and grandchildren's biggest supporter and cheerleader. Maureen would do everything from cheering her family along to helping with homework and providing shelter to anyone that needed it. Maureen was the hardest working person you could know, working 2 and 3 jobs at a time. But remained so positive about all obstacles in life. She was always seeing the good in everyone and everything. Maureen never turned away anyone in their time of need.

Maureen enjoyed traveling for work, choir and pleasure and enjoyed sharing those travels with many family and neighbors. Maureen would spend her Fridays' serving at the temple doing her part to help others improve their spiritual souls. Along with this she worked and enjoyed her part time job and the friends she made with that. She wasn't one to sit around so in what spare time she had left she volunteered at Cyprus High School working with the booster club. She did all of this even after her children and grandchildren had long since graduated and moved on with their lives.

Maureen was the most loving daughter, sister, cousin, aunt, mother, grandmother and great grandmother. She cherished every moment of family time.

Maureen is survived by her daughter, Cheryl (Darren) Jackson. Granddaughter Trista Jackson, great grandchildren Aiden, Kaleb and Torrin. Granddaughter Sashia (Josh) Hunter. Granddaughter Marisa Jackson fiancé Cody Fraker, great grandchildren Jax James"JJ" and Kinsley Ann.

Her son, James (Angie) Reece. Granddaughter Nichole (Wesley) Denos, great grandchildren Braxtyn and Rylee. Granddaughter Cori Reece fiancé Josh Usher, great grandchildren Trinity and Josh "Jr". Grandson Cody "CJ" Reece.

And a special cousin Janet Wagley (Aunt Jan) who helped and guided her children through these last few trying months.

A viewing will be held on 11-20-2023 from 3:00 to 4:00pm at the LDS church located at 7035 W Lochness Avenue, West Valley Utah, with services to follow at 4:00 pm.

Interment will be at a later date in Walla Walla, Washington beside her parents.
