Hazel Rae Fletcher Steed

November 15, 1936 — May 28, 2026

Listen to Obituary

Hazel Rae Steed, our loving wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, sister, aunt, and friend passed away peacefully in her home on Thursday, May 28, 2026. Hazel will be dearly missed, especially by Bill (her loving and devoted husband of nearly 72 years) and her children, grandchildren, great-grandchildren, family, and friends.

Hazel was born in Pueblo, Colorado to Clarence and Violet Fletcher on November 15, 1936, and is the oldest of five children. She graduated from Centennial High School in 1954 and was married just days later to her sweetheart Bill on June 12, 1954. They had 4 children (Rick, Mick, Robbin, and Greg) who were the pride and joy of her life. After being a full-time homemaker during her children's early years, Hazel worked in retail at Crews-Beggs to help support the active lives of her family. Her life was filled with getting her kids from one sporting event to another, recitals, scout meetings, PTA, and school and church events. She was her children's biggest fan. Later in life, Hazel continued with the same vigor, attending her grandchildren's events and activities as well. Nothing made Hazel happier than being with her family.

Hazel was a devoted member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. Bill and Hazel were sealed for time and all eternity with their children in the Los Angeles Temple on July 24, 1962. She served in many callings including Primary, Young Women's, and Relief Society President, and as a Seminary Teacher. After serving in the Ogden Temple for many years, Hazel and Bill left home to serve as full-time missionaries in the Orlando Temple. Even though their mission meant leaving her family and loved ones, Hazel described their mission experience as "Fun! Fun! Fun!"

Hazel's memory will live on through her loving husband Bill, her four children Rick (Connie), Mick (Brenda), Robbin (Greg), and Greg (Amy),

sister Carol Biby (Dennis), and her 13 grandchildren, 32 great-grandchildren (with one on the way), nieces and nephews.

Hazel was preceded in death by her parents and her three brothers Bud, Tom, and Chuck.
