Gweneth Irva Dapp

Jun 28, 1937 — Sep 30, 2026

Listen to Obituary

Gwen was born in Lethbridge, Alberta Canada to Mary Louise and Fingal Zaugg. She was the second of 6 children and grew up in a small farming community.

She graduated from Stirling High School in June of 1955, a class of only 6 seniors. From there she went on to college at Mount Royal in Calgary and after graduation from there went to work at Holy Cross Hospital for 5 years. While there she typed medical record reports for the government. It was a job she loved and excelled at. She also enjoyed working with the nuns.

She married Harry Douglas Dapp on November 14, 1957, in the Cardston Temple and they lived in Calgary where Barbara and Howard were born. They then moved to Salt Lake in 1964. Doug came down first to start his new job, and Gwen followed a couple of weeks later - an adventure with two little ones and a long bus ride! This move was a hard adjustment, being so far away from family.

They settled in what was then Granger, now West Valley City, and in 1966 Steve was born. Gwen spent several years babysitting at home and was often seen heading to Primary to teach with a wagon full of kids and several on bikes. She loved her time teaching, and her house was always the go-to house in the neighborhood.

Gwen did volunteer work at Monroe Elementary for many years, both in the classroom listening to kids read and, on the playground, teaching many how to jump Double Dutch (she even took her own ropes).

She then went on to work for the Salt Lake County Election Clerk's office and worked there for 20 years before retiring. This was another job that she really enjoyed and always worked hard at.

Along with volunteering and working, after retiring, she would spend at least a couple of months every year with Steve and Mika and their growing family -- first in Florida, then in Tennessee. While in Tennessee, she fell in love with hummingbirds and after that always had feeders hanging in her yard for them.

She was well known for her cookies, apple pies, and french fries. Along with that, she made countless quilts and Raggedy Ann and Andy dolls.

The loves of her life were her children (and spouses), her grandchildren (and spouses), and her great-grandchildren (who she always had ice cream in the freezer for!). She delighted in watching them play and have fun.
