George Jackson Turner, age 56, died October 30, 2024, in Murray, Utah.
Born on August 19, 1968, in Rexburg, Idaho, the oldest son of George Wyatt and Colleen Jackson Turner. George married Diane Russon Turner on May 31, 1996, in the Salt Lake LDS Temple. He was a faithful member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and served in the Pittsburg, Pennsylvania Mission. He graduated from Jordan High School in 1987, and later attended Salt Lake Community College. He served faithfully in the church in the Elders Quorum, the Sunday School Presidency, as a Primary teacher, and a Cub Scout Webelos leader. He was awarded an honorary Eagle pin at an Eagle ceremony by one of his former scouts for his efforts as his leader; having made a significant impact on the young man's life.
George loved the outdoors and always had an affinity for remote-controlled airplanes and loved working on models, even as a boy. An avid BYU fan, he loved sports. He was protective of his younger brother, Clay, and always watched out for him. He met his wife, Diane, on a blind date and dated her long-distance while she pursued her schooling. He was always proud of his first kiss with his future wife on Capitol Hill overlooking two temples; the Salt Lake Temple and the Jordan River Temple. The long-distance phone calls were expensive, so they also wrote many letters to one another to stay in touch.
George had many interests; he was a member of UTE RC Club, Utah Valley Aeromodelers, enjoyed touring Church history sites and US History sites, as well as visiting his mission areas with his family. After serving his mission, he worked at Yellowstone National Park for two summers. He was employed at Snelgrove Ice Cream and Quality Press and had a career with the Salt Lake City School District Transportation as a bus driver for nearly 20 years. Devoted to his employment, he enjoyed transporting students to and from school and to other activities. He was at work preparing for the day when he suddenly collapsed near his bus before his death.
George traveled extensively with his wife and children and enjoyed spending time together as a family. They loved going on picnics, visiting national parks, and one of his favorite activities was driving through the canyons and watching the leaves change. He also enjoyed going to movies and attending local plays. George's family and friends love him and will miss him dearly. They are grateful that he is free from pain and is reunited with his daughter, Rachel, and the rest of his loving family on the other side.
George is survived by his beloved wife of 28 years, Diane, and two sons, Jordan Turner and Hunter Turner. He is also survived by his brother, Clay Wyatt Turner, (Jennifer) of Tennessee and many nieces and nephews. He is preceded in death by his parents, George Wyatt Turner and Colleen Jackson Turner, and his daughter, Rachel Diane Turner. The family would love to thank everyone that has reached out with love, prayers, and support during this difficult time due to George's sudden passing.
