Gaylen Dwight Johnson passed away on January 16, 2026, at the age of 62. He was born on February 11, 1963, in Tremonton, Utah, to Mary Jane (Crafton-Hadley) Johnson and Eddie Bert Johnson. Gaylen had special needs and was cared for by many throughout his life.
His mother, Mary Jane, tragically passed away at a young age, and Gaylen was raised by the Winslow family in Kearns, Utah. He graduated from Hartvigsen High School. His sister, Geraldine Winslow, oversaw his care throughout his life. For more than 30 years, Gaylen lived in a group home in Taylorsville, where he enjoyed a variety of activities and grew close with other residents and staff. He had a special way of touching other's lives.
Gaylen competed and won medals in the Special Olympics, which he was very proud of always kept in his room. He also enjoyed collecting Hot Wheels cars and built an impressive collection.
Gaylen is survived by his sisters, Geraldine Winslow, Diana Bishop, and Mae Serkin, along with several nieces and nephews.
The family would like to thank Mike and the staff of Futures Through Choices for their many years of support, as well as the staff at the Work Activity Center and St. Mark's Hospital for their care. He will be greatly missed.
Funeral Services will be held Friday, February 6, 2026 ~ 2:00 p.m. at McDougal Funeral Home, 4330 South Redwood Road, Taylorsville, Utah. Viewings will be held Thursday, February 5, 2026~ 6-8:00 p.m. and again Friday 1-1:45 p.m. also at McDougal Funeral Home.
