Elizabeth Ann Nelson

On a beautiful warm day, July 19, 2026, the gates of heaven opened and our mother, grandmother and great-grandmother stepped through the vale into the loving arms of her sweetheart, having fought the honorable and valiant fight against cancer. Though she lost the battle with cancer, she is victorious and pain free in the beautiful and sacred realms of heaven. While our hearts are heavy with grief at our loss here on earth, our spirits are filled with the knowledge that she was welcomed in with open arms.

Her unwavering faith and strong spirit are a testimony to those of us left behind to move forward with peace, tranquility and a goal of steadfast faith in the knowledge that we shall meet again.

Elizabeth Ann (Lyons) Nelson was born May 29, 1950 to Myron Wilkins and Leona Mae Davis Lyons. She was the youngest of six children. She was educated in Salem and Spanish Fork schools and had many higher education courses.

She met her sweetheart, Gordon Lee Nelson, in 1964 and they were married on November 15, 1965. They were later sealed for time and all eternity in the Manti Temple on November 15, 1976. They fulfilled a local mission together in Layton UT until such time as our father's health declined.

Our mother was a free spirit and ran through the fields of her family's farm bare foot and uninhibited. Her best friends were the animals therein, particularly the horses, which she rode every day. She was truly an animal whisperer. She could tend to the needs of her animals with the same fervor as she did her hospice patients. She took pride in caring for those who would be returning home to heaven and their waiting relatives.

Her children, grandchildren & great-grandchildren were her whole world. She played video games, went to movies, sang songs and played with each one that lived closed. She visited as often as possible, those who lived at greater distances.

Elizabeth leaves behind her daughters, Leslie (Chris) Faulkner and Kari Brooker, 13 grandchildren and 27 great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Gordon, son-in-law George Brooker, her parents and most of her siblings.

Her tiny body will be laid to rest at the Lindquist Cemetery, 1867 N Fairfield Road, Layton Utah. McDougal Funeral Home will preside over her care until this time. Her funeral will be July 31, 2026 at 11:00 am in the Oak Hills Ward Chapel 2250 E 2200 N, Layton UT. A viewing will take place at the same facility from 9:00 am to 10:45 am.

In honor of her favorite color, purple, the family invites you to wear something purple in tribute to her.
