Heaven gained the sweetest soul. Dora Mae Chaney, beloved wife, mother, grandmother, sister, and friend, peacefully passed away on May 6, 2025, just days before her 85th birthday.
She was born on May 15, 1940, in Ogden, Utah to George West Stoddard and Ruby Fowers, and was raised in Hooper, Utah. Dora was one of four siblings and is preceded in death by her sister Jean (Bill) Parker and her brother Glen (Venice) Stoddard. She is survived by her loving sister, Emma Maxfield.
Dora is now joyfully reunited through the veil with her eternal companion, William Oscar Chaney, and their beloved son, Scott William Chaney. Their reunion is a sacred and beautiful fulfillment of her lifelong faith and testimony in eternal families-a hope she carried in her heart every day. While her absence is deeply felt, the knowledge that she is again by their side brings great peace and comfort to those who love her.
Those who knew Dora saw a devoted homemaker whose life centered around her family and faith. She found deep joy in watching her children and grandchildren grow up and carried a godly pride for each of them. She had a quiet strength, a warm presence, and a gift for turning ordinary moments into cherished memories. She loved reading, solving crossword puzzles, and ending her evenings with the 10 o'clock news-or an episode of Heartland. Her home was filled with love, laughter, and the comforting smells of her famous beef and noodles or biscuits and gravy, which she lovingly prepared for both her family and her ward family.
Dora was deeply devoted to the gospel of Jesus Christ and found great purpose in serving in the Jordan River Temple alongside her husband for nearly ten years. She treasured her testimony and the eternal truth that families can be together forever.
She is survived by her daughter, Kellie (Chris) Isbell, and her grandchildren: Kayte, Kenneth "KC," and Kennedy, who will forever carry her love and legacy in their hearts.
The family would love to thank the Canyon Hospice team, Visiting Angels, and her ward family for their love and support during the final years of living her dash.
A celebration of life will be held on May 17, 2025, at 11:00 AM, with visitation beginning at 9:00 AM at The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, 5233 S 3200 W, Taylorsville, Utah. Following the service, Dora will be buried in Hooper, Utah, beside her husband and son.
