Dennis Weston March 14, 1939 - April 28, 2026

Dennis Weston passed away peacefully at the age of 87 on April 28, 2026. To many, he was a gentle giant, a man of few complaints, and of deep gratitude. He made everyone around him feel genuinely valued.

Dennis was born in Driggs, Idaho, to Bruno and Hilda Weston. He grew up on a farm alongside his four siblings, learning early what hard work looked like. He harvested crops, milked cows, gathered eggs, stacked hay, and moved sprinkler pipes. Growing up in the shadow of the Teton mountains instilled in him a love of the outdoors that never left him.

As a young man, Dennis served an LDS mission in South Germany and was dedicated to church service for his entire life. He also served his country as a radio mechanic in the U.S. Army. He later became a test engineer and worked for a defense contractor in a position that demanded precision and patience, two things he excelled at. If something was broken, be it electrical, plumbing, or carpentry, it didn't matter, he figured it out. That was just who he was.

That hands-on nature carried into his passion for woodworking, which became one of his deepest expressions of love. For years, he built hand-made gifts for his children and grand-children. He made beautiful dollhouses, rocking horses, furniture, and games with care and attention. They were the kind of gifts people kept forever.

While living in Salt Lake City, he met Marie, who would become his wife and closest companion. They married in the Cardston Alberta Temple and spent the next five decades living a rich life.

Dennis loved to hike. His favorite was the trail to Table Rock in the Tetons. He turned it into something of a family tradition always taking new family members and grandchildren up the mountain as an official initiation into the family. He made his last climb, to the amazement of many of the other people on the trail that day, at the age of 77. He also loved to swim, and few things made him happier than taking his grandchildren to the pool.

His grandchildren meant the world to him. You could see it in the way he talked about them, and by the hours he spent in his workshop building something just for them.

After 52 years in the same home, Dennis and Marie moved to a new community. Once he arrived, Dennis did what he always did, he made friends. His family couldn't walk the halls without someone stopping them to say how much they loved him. He had a positive influence on people everywhere he went. While there, his wife's health deteriorated. He was at her side lovingly taking care of her until her last day.

Dennis is celebrated by his children Brian (Karen), LeAnn (Chris), Michelle (Jody), and Jenn (Kent); 13 grandchildren; and 9 great-grandchildren. At death, he was reunited with his wife, his parents, his brother, and many other friends celebrating his return.

The family is deeply grateful to the staff and residents at Sagewood and Canyon Hospice for the extraordinary care and love they gave Dennis in his final chapter. They welcomed him as their own, and their kindness was a comfort to the entire family.

Dennis will be remembered as exactly what he was, a gentle giant, a steady presence, and a man who gave more than he ever asked for.
