Dennis T. Mackay transferred to his Heavenly Father's presence Thursday morning, April 16, 2026, sleeping peacefully at his home in West Valley City, Utah. He was 79.
He enjoyed a quiet life of simple pleasures, like crossword puzzles, baseball games, and homemade mix tapes. He kept a journal of his life experiences, thoughts, and opinions covering a wide variety of topics and people. If you asked him to, he would demonstrate a surprising knack for sketching.
His two proudest accomplishments are his military service and his family. Dennis joined the Air Force after high school, serving in peace time as a supply clerk, stationed in several places across Europe and America. After retiring from the service, he frequently wore clothing for retired veterans to show his Air Force pride.
Dennis's military service also enabled him to provide for his wife and children. A man of few words, he strove to show his love through actions. He showed it through watching shows with them, playing games, taking them on trips, attending ceremonies and performances, and working around the house and in the garden with his wife. His joys only grew as he watched his children start families of their own. Friends and neighbors often heard him share stories of his children's newest accomplishments.
As a devout member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, Dennis was also actively involved in Church service, accepting every calling and fulfilling them with all his heart, no matter how intimidating. His simple, heartfelt talks in church often yielded profound truths. His faith gave his children a clear example worth following.
Dennis is survived by his mother, Adeline, his sisters, LeeAnne, Diane, Connie, and Jan, his wife, Magdalena, children, Rosa Maria (Chris Best), Adriana, Juan-Carlos (Amara), and Sergio (Candace), and grandchildren Becca (Eric), Daniel, Jacob, Mercedes, and Tillie.
The viewing will be at 11am followed by the funeral at 12pm which will be held Thursday, April 23, 2026, at the McDougal Funeral Home, 4330 South Redwood Road, Taylorsville, Utah. The burial will then conclude at Utah Veterans Memorial Park at 2pm, 17111 South Redwood Road Bluffdale, Utah.
