Delmas LeRoy Anderson - beloved husband, father, grandfather, and friend - passed away peacefully on October 28, 2025, sitting on his porch and gazing out over the mountains he loved so dearly.
Born in Garfield, Utah, Del spent much of his childhood in Jerome, Idaho, a place that always held a special place in his heart. His family later moved to Kearns, Utah where he enjoyed his teenage years and later graduated from Granger High School in the neighboring community of Granger, now part of West Valley City.
After high school, Del served a mission for The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in the East Central States Mission, covering West Virginia, Kentucky, and Tennessee. This experience ignited a lifelong devotion to his faith and to serving others. Soon after returning home, he received a calling from President David O. McKay to serve as a Temple Square usher-a role he would faithfully fulfill for 50 years.
In 1969, Del married Sandra Jean "Sandi" Anderson, with whom he shared a deep and enduring love. Together they raised three children-Bryon, Amy, and Mindy-and built a life rich in faith, laughter, and adventure. Family vacations were treasured traditions, filled with trips to Disneyland, Lake Powell, Lake Mead, Bear Lake, and memorable journeys to the eastern United States, Hawaii, and the Bahamas. Del's pride in his children and later his grandchildren was boundless; he supported every dream and celebrated every success.
Del attended LDS Business College and Stevens-Henager Business College, studying sales and marketing with hopes of becoming an insurance agent. Life took a different path when he began running his brother's service station and later managed several stations for Sinclair Oil Company. Eventually, he became employed by The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints as a building custodian-a role he took great pride in, ensuring every detail was immaculate. After early retirement from the Church, he joined West Valley City's Parks and Recreation Department, where he worked until his retirement.
Del loved the community where he and Sandi raised their family. He was deeply involved in civic life, serving on the West Valley City Parks and Recreation Advisory Board and receiving numerous honors, including the Award of Excellence from the West Valley City Crime Prevention Coalition, a Certificate of Outstanding Contribution from the Salt Lake County Neighborhood Action Coalition, and the city's "Best of the Best" Award for outstanding civic participation.
Relationships were at the heart of who Del was. He had a remarkable gift for connecting with people and made friends wherever he went. His sincerity, kindness, and genuine interest in others drew people to him easily, and once you were Del's friend, you were a friend for life. He was dependable, compassionate, and always ready to lend a helping hand-traits that defined his life and the way he treated others.
In 2003, Del's life was deeply changed by the passing of his beloved Sandi. The years that followed were difficult, but joy and peace returned when he met Linda Harris in 2006. They married in 2007 and shared many happy years together - traveling the country, exploring church history sites, and enjoying the freedom of retirement. Del loved Linda's grown children - Bonnie, Cami, and Martin - as his own and was grateful for the love and friendship they shared.
After completing his many years of service as a Temple Square usher, Del accepted a new calling as a temple worker in the Ogden Utah Temple. For Del, temple work and family history were inseparable callings - each strengthening the other. He found great joy in performing temple ordinances for his deceased relatives and equal satisfaction in discovering and recording their names and stories. In his later years, it was nearly impossible to have a conversation with him without hearing about a long-lost ancestor he was researching or a new connection he had discovered. His daughter Bonnie was his faithful RootsTech companion, and attending the conference became his Disneyland in his later years. His meticulous records and devotion to this sacred work will remain a lasting legacy - one his family will benefit from and cherish for generations to come.
Del was a man of deep and unwavering belief. He had a profound admiration for the Prophet Joseph Smith and a lifelong testimony of Jesus Christ, His atoning sacrifice, and the promise of redemption. His faith guided him in every aspect of his life.
He will be deeply missed by all who knew him - but his family finds peace in knowing there is a joyful reunion happening on the other side. "We'll see you soon, Grumpy."
Del is survived by his wife, Linda Anderson; his children, Bryon (Kami) Anderson, Amy Brown, and Mindy (Brandon) Bingham; his stepchildren, Martin (Heather) Harris and Bonnie (John) Ruskauff; seventeen combined grandchildren; one great-granddaughter; and his sister, Kathryn (Dee) Allred.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Sandi Anderson; his parents, Gordon and Kathryn Anderson; his stepdaughter, Cami Harris Crouch (Jeremy); his brothers, Gary (Marilyn), Craig, and Paul (Birdie) Anderson; and his sister, Janeen Anderson.
