David Frank Popelmayer, 68, passed away on October 14, 2026, in West Valley City, Utah. Born in Sandy, Utah, David dedicated his life to serving and protecting others, spending 23 years with the Utah Highway Patrol - including 8 years on the motor squad - and continuing his public service with the Division of Emergency Management.

Known for his quick wit, easygoing nature, and fondness for practical jokes, David had a natural ability to connect with people and bring laughter to any room. He loved spending time outdoors, whether he was riding his motorcycles, boating, camping, or fishing, often accompanied by his beloved service dog, Roxy. Following his retirement, David embraced a new adventure, traveling across the country in his motor home with his wife. Among all their travels, his absolute favorite trip was visiting Boston, where he got to fulfill a lifelong dream of watching his beloved Boston Red Sox play at historic Fenway Park.

David is survived by his loving wife, Tamra Popelmayer; his children, Mindy Mattics and Kail Popelmayer; his sister, Diane Brecken; and his loyal service dog, Roxy. At David's explicit request, no formal services will be held.
