David Keith Macmillan, born November 27, 1972, was the beloved youngest child of Keith and VaLora Macmillan. Passed away on April 12, 2026. David was born with autism and faced the added challenge of epilepsy throughout his life. Though considered nonverbal, David developed his own meaningful ways to communicate. He learned some sign language, used around 100 words, and expressed himself in ways that were uniquely his-ways that those who loved him came to understand.
David was adventurous from a young age. As a child, he loved roller skating and riding a skateboard in his own special way. He found great joy in swimming and was especially good at the breaststroke and also he could spend hours happily jumping on the trampoline.
As he grew older, David developed a love for horseback riding and riding four-wheelers. In his later years, he preferred to keep both feet on the ground, but he never lost his love for a good car ride and the simple joy of spending time visiting with family.
David had a remarkable mind when it came to puzzles-he could solve them faster than anyone and delighted in the challenge of something new. He loved to laugh, to tease, and had a playful charm about him. He rarely missed a chance to flirt or offer a wink to the ladies.
He was never much for sweets, but a good, cold Coca-Cola was one of his simple favorites.
David's best mate was his dad. Keith, originally from Australia, had of course an Aussie accent that David lovingly mimicked in his speech. Anyone who had the privilege of communicating with David quickly noticed his own Australian accent-a reflection of the bond he shared with his father. Above all, David was kind and loving. He had his own special ways of showing affection-saying "I love you," blowing kisses, and always ending goodbyes with a heartfelt "toodle-loo."
David is survived by his loving mother, VaLora Macmillan; his brother, Ren Macmillan; and his sister, Cammie (Ryan) Edvalson. He is also survived by his niece, Aspen (Seth) Clegg and his nephews: Alex Lund, Brecken Edvalson, and Kellen Edvalson; and his great-nephews, Luke and Leland Clegg. He is preceded in death by his father and best mate, Keith Macmillan.
Special thanks to his group home staff with Chrysalis who helped make his home away from home the best it could be.
