David John Graves, age 42, passed away on Friday, January 9, 2026, in Tooele, Utah. David lived a life centered on deep love for his family and his many talents and deeply held passions.
David was born on June 2, 1983, at Cottonwood Hospital in Murray, Utah, to Morris Russell Graves and Gail Graves. He was raised in Murray, Utah, a place he proudly called home. He attended Murray High School, where he was a talented member of their wrestling team. He achieved the rank of Eagle Scout thanks to the hard work and dedication of his mother and his wonderful scout leaders who continued to influence him throughout his life. Following graduation, he attended BYU-Idaho for a short time before serving a full-time mission for The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in the Jackson, Mississippi Mission. During his mission, he developed a profound appreciation for and a deeper understanding of the gospel of Jesus Christ, as well as many lasting friendships. After returning home from his mission, David moved to Logan, Utah, where he eventually graduated with a bachelor's degree in history. There, he met and began dating Erin Nicole Moore, whom he married on May 4, 2006, in Manti, Utah.
David and Erin were blessed with five children - three sons and two daughters - who were the greatest joy of his life. David loved his children more than anything and found his greatest happiness in the time spent with them-whether sharing music, watching college football, or engaging in his many hobbies and interests, creating memories that would be treasured forever.
David had a deep passion for BYU football and attended as many games as he could each season. Through this passion, he was able to meet and spend time with coaches and players on numerous occasions, and he hosted dinners in his home with some of his favorite athletes. He also loved gardening, especially growing fruit trees, and found peace and satisfaction in planting, caring for, and harvesting his work. He was very passionate about music, particularly 1970s and 1980s rock bands. Some of his favorites included Pink Floyd, The Beatles, and Led Zeppelin. He will be remembered for his passion and creativity, his ability to develop friendships wherever he went, his deep love for his family, and his unmatched talent for bringing people together with parties full of joy, laughter, and delicious food.
Professionally, David worked primarily with alarm system companies, serving in various roles including installer, software provider, and qualified agent. He also created and operated his own software company for several years, taking pride in his work and approaching it with dedication and creativity. While his work led him to live in many places across the United States, he had made Tooele, Utah, his home for the past 12 years.
David was one of 12 children in the Graves family and shared a very close bond with his siblings. He was also very close with his extended family and had a deeply meaningful connection with his Grandma Graves.
David was preceded in death by his grandparents, Morris Russell Graves and Doris Graves, and David Earl Fisher and Wilma Baird Fisher; his aunts, Nancy Singleton and Patti Fisher Dover; and his nephew, Tyler Fisher Barnes.
