David Cude Betts, a father, grandfather, great-grandfather, and friend passed away on his 78th birthday, June 4, 2025, at his home in Taylorsville, Utah. He was born on June 4, 1947, in Salt Lake City, Utah, to Norma and Reid Betts.
David found his greatest joy in the presence of his partner, children, and grandchildren, offering unwavering support and quiet pride in their endeavors. His legacy is deeply etched in the hearts of those who loved him, particularly reflected in the cherished memories shared by his family:
His daughter, Dianna, talks about how every birthday Dad would recount the story of him rushing from Army Reserves duty in California to the Utah hospital after a dire call about Mom and me when I was born. Ignoring staff who tried to stop him, he burst into our room with his duffle bag, finding us safe. Once the confusion cleared, the police call was canceled. Days later, he gave me a little pink sleeping bag - a gift from his army buddies.
His partner, Sandy, reflects on their shared adventures: "Some of my happiest memories are of traveling with him."
His son, Jeremy, remembers all of the time they spent searching the mountains for hidden mines.
His son, Jesse, remembers most profoundly the depth of his father's love: "Dad loved us all, completely and unconditionally."
His daughter, Amanda, cherishes having her Dad call her every day, and the time she got to hang out with him and play casino slots.
His daughter, Tonia, recalls his signature style and sentimentality: "Dad loved his boots. They were a part of him. I'll always treasure that he wore his favorite pair to my wedding."
His son, James, speaks to his father's enduring character: "Dad taught me perseverance. I remember catching my first fish with him - he was so patient. But more than that, he taught me what it means to never give up on people. No matter how badly any of us messed up, Dad was always there, standing firmly by our side"
David's family extends their deepest gratitude and a special tribute to Eric, his compassionate hospice nurse. In his final weeks, Eric provided not only exceptional care but genuine companionship. David cherished their conversations, finding great comfort in Eric's willingness to sit and listen to his stories. It was David's specific wish that Eric's kindness, dedication, and friendship be recognized and honored. Eric truly made a profound difference.
David is survived by his loving partner, Sandy Baker, his children: Dianna Betts, Jeremy Betts, Amanda Betts, Jesse (Robin) Betts, Tonia Howard, James Betts, cherished grandchildren Madison, Jacob, Jaya, Micah, Zack, Kaleb, Ashley, and his great-grandchildren Thomas, and Zaxton . He was preceded in death by his parents.
A celebration of David's life will be held on Tuesday, June 10, 2025, at Pleasant Green Cemetery, located at 9200 West 3381 South, Magna, Utah, at 1:00 PM.
In lieu of flowers, the family suggests honoring his memory by spending quality time with your loved ones and sharing your stories, just as David loved to do.
David Cude Betts will be remembered for his jokes, love for his family, his well-worn boots, his love of the open road, and his unwavering presence through every storm. He will be profoundly missed.
