Dana Wardle

September 16, 1930 — January 11, 2024

Our Dear Mother, Dana Lay Wardle, passed away peacefully, surrounded by family, at home on Thursday, January 11, 2024, due to causes incident to age.

Born September 16, 1930, in Escalante, Utah, she was the eighth child of Edward and Ada Heaps Lay's nine children.

She graduated from Snow College and was attending LDS Business College when she met her Sweetheart, J. Holt Wardle. They were married on January 9, 1951, in the Salt Lake Temple.

Mom was a faithful member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. She gained a valiant testimony through studying the gospel and serving the Lord. She and Holt served in the New Hampshire Manchester Mission from 1993 to 1994, and then served in the Jordan River Temple from 1995 to 2002. She held many callings in the Church, but always had a special place in her heart for working with the Young Women.

Mom loved her family and any occasion to get them all together. She and Dad had great adventures traveling with wonderful friends. Mom worked for U of U Food Services for 13 years and at The Fabric Shop in Murray for several years.

She is survived by three children: Jone (Mike) Richardson, Jay (Bonnie) Wardle, and Janice (Boyd) Peterson, 12 grandchildren, 41 great-grandchildren and 9 great-great-grandchildren.

She is preceded in death by her husband, parents, siblings: Howard Kay Lay, Addlin Edward Lay, Olga Zdunich, Ava Lay, Metz Lay, Olaf Kim Lay, Hazen Cray Lay Sr., and Valdene Short, and one granddaughter, Wendy Peterson.

Funeral Services will be held on Tuesday, January 16, 2024, at 12 noon at the Kearns Utah East Stake Center (4715 South 4300 West, Kearns, Utah) with a viewing prior to the funeral at the church from 11:00 - 11:45 a.m. Another viewing will be held on Monday, January 15, 2024, from 6 - 8:00 p.m. at McDougal Funeral Home (4330 South Redwood Road, Taylorsville, Utah). Interment at Redwood Memorial Estates (6500 South Redwood Road, Taylorsville, Utah).

The family wishes to express gratitude to our nurse, Traci, from Active Home Health & Hospice for her exceptional care and kindness.
