Born March 14 1934, in a very small country town called Weston in Idaho (population about 500 then and still about 500) to Archie Vern & Rachel Louise Lott. He was the youngest of 4 boys Dale James, Duane Neil, and Theron (who died just a few days after his birth). Clain enjoyed country life.
At the sweet age of 15, Clain was challenged to read the Book of Mormon, and he prayed for a testimony, which changed his life experiences, not only spiritually, but with his whole outlook on life. He claims to have gone from an unmotivated, uneducated student to one seeking to learn about EVERYTHING!
After graduating high school in Clifton, Idaho (home of Harold B Lee), he attended Idaho State College in Pocatello, Idaho (now Idaho State University).
He married a really cute and very special farm girl Gwen Schenk from Preston, Idaho on September 20,1957. They lived in Weston until he graduated from school at Utah State where he received a Bachelors Degree in Industrial Education. Later he got a Masters degree, he claims, with all of the help he received from his sweetheart Gwen. He continued to teach for 31 years.
He began his teaching career in Portland, Oregon then moved to Utah in 1961 where he taught at Granger High School, Cottonwood High, and ended his career at West Jordan. He taught at each one for 10 years.
He served 4 missions; the first one was in Sweden when he was 19, and he served for 2 1/2 years. Then for 2 years in the Jordan North Stake, and the last 2 with his wife, one in Rapid City, South Dakota, and 2 years in England in the London temple.
He first met Gwen at a dance, and he forgot to ask for her phone number and lost contact with her. He didn't know where she lived or know any of her friends or how to get in touch with her, but with the help of the Lord they met the next day. After dating for a short few months, they prayed together on her back lawn, "First me, then her. It was confirmed that we were to be together forever." They met around Easter and were married a few short months later on September 20, 1957.
After his first quarter of school at Utah State, they were living in Weston where they had their first 2 children, Dianne and Daniel, after which he graduated and they moved to Oregon to start his teaching career. A year later they moved to Utah where Curtis and Kathy were born, and there they have lived ever since.
He is preceded in death by his wife Gwen, son Daniel, grandson Christopher; brothers Dale, Duane, and Theron; parents Archie and Rachel. Survived by daughters Dianne Martinez (Bill), Kathy Bowen, son Curtis (Trella), 8 grandchildren, 19 great-grandchildren, and 1 great-great-grandson.
Funeral Services will be held Thursday, May 7, 2026, 12L00 p.m. at Jordan North 4th Ward, 4270 S. Falcon St. with a viewing 11:00-11:45 a.m. prior to the funeral service. Interment, Weston City Cemetery, Idaho.
