Cathryn Patricia Donio Skinner, beloved mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, great-great- grandmother, and friend, passed away peacefully on June 16, 2026, surrounded by her loving family in Salt Lake City, Utah. She was born on November 19, 1932, in Salt Lake City, Utah.
Cathryn was the daughter of two immigrants - her mother from Denmark and her father from Italy. Together they built a family and welcomed two children, John and Cathryn.
When Cathryn was just two years old, her father tragically lost his life in a mining accident. Left to raise her children alone, Cathryn's mother worked tirelessly to provide for her family. Through life's hardships, she taught Cathryn the values of strength, resilience, hard work, selflessness, honesty, and integrity. These lessons shaped Cathryn into a woman who was deeply respected by all who knew her.
Despite facing financial struggles of her own, Cathryn was always willing to help those in need. She often opened her home and heart to neighborhood children, making sure they were fed and cared for. Her family fondly remembers her remarkable ability to stretch a simple pot of macaroni and tomato juice to feed anyone who needed a meal.
Cathryn loved unconditionally and without judgment. She gave her whole heart to those around her and exemplified the qualities of kindness, compassion, and generosity. She embodied what it means to live a Christlike life - treating others with dignity and respect, practicing common sense and human decency, and allowing people to be themselves without fear of judgment. Her selflessness and acceptance left a lasting impact on countless lives.
Cathryn was a faithful member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and was sealed to her husband Carl in the Salt Lake Temple.
Cathryn was preceded in death by her parents; her brother, John; her husband, Carl; her daughter, Annette; her son Rick; her grandchildren, Aaron, Chris, Scott, great-grandson Connor; her daughter-in-law, Sandra; and her son-in-law, Larry. We take comfort in imagining the joyful reunion she is now experiencing with these loved ones and many dear friends and family members who have gone before her.
She is survived by her children, Judy and Phil Chatwin, Patricia Brinkerhoff, Mel Hardman, Kevin and Melanie Thorpe, Robinn and Dennis Webster, and Ed and Melissa Skinner, as well as numerous grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and great-great-grandchildren who will continue to cherish her memory and carry forward her legacy of love.
Cathryn had a gift for touching the lives of everyone she met. Her kindness, wisdom, generosity, and unwavering love will be remembered by all who were fortunate enough to know her.
Words cannot fully express the amount of love she gave and received throughout her life. Her legacy lives on in the family she nurtured, the friendships she cherished, and the countless lives she influenced through simple acts of compassion.
The family would like to extend their heartfelt gratitude to CNS Hospice for the exceptional care, comfort, and support they provided to Cathryn and her family during her final days.
