Carol Walters

February 11, 1950 — July 14, 2025

Carol Lynne Walters, 75, of West Point, Utah, passed away peacefully due to complications from cancer treatments on July 14, 2025, at Holy Cross Hospital in Layton, Utah.

Lynne was best known for her infectious laugh, slow eating, love of crafting, consistent positivity, dedication to family, and rock-solid faith.

Lynne was born in Provo, Utah on February 11, 1950, to Leland and Carol Gregerson. She was the third of six children and their first daughter. She lived with her mother and two older brothers while her father served overseas in the Korean War. Leland had to wait 18 months to see his baby girl for the first time. Army life was a constant adventure, and the family moved often in the first years of Lynne's life. They lived in Virginia, Germany, and California, until they settled in Holladay, Utah when she was 11 years old. As a child, Lynne loved an adventure. She was especially known for her affinity for tree climbing. This got her into trouble and almost ended her life when she was about eight years old. She fell out of a tree from several feet in the air and landed in the hospital with puncture wounds and several broken bones. But even that didn't stifle her love for tree climbing. If you asked her in her later years what she would do if her body was healthy, she would say "climb the highest tree I could find" with a glimmer in her eye.

Lynne attended Skyline High School and enjoyed playing sports and writing. She held jobs as a lifeguard and for the National Parks at the Grand Canyon.

Lynne met and fell in love with Kent Walters, and after a three-year courtship, they married on September 28, 1973. She gave birth to three boys in five years, Brandon, Ryan and Colton, and they settled their little family in West Valley City, Utah. As a family, they loved spending time in the outdoors camping, hunting, and fishing. After 10 years of marriage, Lynne and Kent discovered that, while they loved one another, they could not stay married to each other. They divorced, but remained friends, and worked hard to raise their boys together in unity.

While Lynne was raising her young boys as a single mom, she decided she wanted to make changes in her life to bring her family closer to their Savior. So, she set aside old habits and dedicated herself to full participation in The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. She never looked back. She received her endowment in the Jordan River Temple and began a lifelong love of serving in the House of the Lord. One of her greatest desires before she passed away was to recover her health enough to serve in the newly-opened Syracuse Temple. She served in church callings for over 40 years, most recently as a Relief Society Teacher. She served as a missionary at the Harrisville Cannery and a docent at the Conference Center on Temple Square, but her favorite calling was with the Young Women. They were the daughters she never had, and she served them with all her heart. They loved her back fiercely.

Lynne worked several jobs over the years, always working full-time to support her three boys. She worked jobs for CompHealth and the Salt Lake County Jail, among others. She retired from Intermountain Health Care as a physician credentialer. When Lynne wasn't working, she spent time in her favorite hobbies: sewing, quilting, scrapbooking, cardmaking, reading, going to lunch with friends, and last, but definitely not least, watching baseball.

The roots of Lynne's family tree captivated her interest. She loved to gather information, pictures, and letters from the ancestors who came before her. As much as she loved her roots, her branches were even more important to her. She found the most fulfillment in witnessing her three boys all serve missions, marry in the temple, and raise their families in faith. Her 12 grandchildren were the center of her universe, and she relished spending time with them. She sat and talked to them one by one and always made an extra effort to attend their concerts, sporting events, and other extracurricular activities. They looked forward with anxious anticipation to special "grandma dates," and she taught them classes in cardmaking and sewing. Her happy place was enjoying a picnic with her posterity and then watching a rousing kickball game, that she had coordinated, from the sidelines.

For the last few years of her life, it seemed Lynne was always looking forward to the time when her body felt better and she could indulge in simple pleasures. She was never able to get to that point, so the best way to honor her would be to enjoy those activities she wasn't able to: sit on the back porch with a book and enjoy the sun, eat an ice cream cone, go to lunch with a friend, go for a bike ride, climb a tree, attend a baseball game, take grandkids on an outing, send a thoughtful card to a loved one, serve in the community, and attend the temple. She would be proud.

Lynne is preceded in death by her parents Leland and Carol Gregerson, her best friend Kent Walters, her daughter-in-law Jennifer Walters, and her brother-in-law Nick Miller. She is survived by her sons Brandon (Alicia) Walters, Ryan (Brooke) Walters, Colton (Christy) Walters, her twelve grandchildren, and her siblings Eric Gregerson, Jeff (Wendy) Gregerson, Debbie Miller, Paul (Mary) Gregerson, and Jennifer Gregerson. A viewing will be held at McDougal Funeral Homes, 4330 South Redwood Road, West Valley City, Utah, on Thursday July 17, 2025, from 6:00 to 8:00 PM. Another viewing will be held at her LDS church building, 3488 West 300 North, West Point, Utah, on Friday, July 18, 2025, at 9:00 AM, with the funeral to follow at 10:00 AM. Interment will take place at the Gregerson Family Cemetery in Pintura, Utah on Saturday, July 19, 2025.
