Born June 18, 1932, in Hunter, Utah to Alfred Christian Nielsen and Hazel Charlotte Day.
Died February 18, 2026, in West Valley City, Utah.
Married William (Bill) Reid Evans Nov 2, 1950, in the Salt Lake Temple.
4 children -- Karen, William Craig (Terry) Evans, Vicki Lin (Terry) Meeks, Joleen.
Her father was a seminary teacher, but mom was a farmer at heart, a trait that she passed on to each of her children.
Mom was a very active member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. She worked in the Jordan River Temple for many years. Her favorite calling in the church was camp director. She loved it all until the last day of camp when "the girls always wanted to get my hair wet". She was a member of Daughters of the Utah Pioneers.
In 93 years she saw a lot of history. She was 9 years old and living in Hawai'i when Pearl Harbor was bombed.
Mom travelled to Germany with 4 young children to meet Bill for a 2 year work assignment. And at the end of that assignment she travelled with those same 4 young children home on a freighter full of Volkswagens. That trip took 21 days. It was not a cruise.
Travel was one of her favorite things and Egypt and Israel were a real treat. But travelling to visit family was the best. Mom and dad drove to North Carolina to spend time with Vicki and her family -- with the stipulation that they must stop every 2 hrs and call Karen to be sure they were ok.
In the later years she always wanted to 'go for a ride'. She was always up for a road trip. So, for the last 42 years, every fall and spring mom and dad would travel to their favorite sport -- softball.
Mom was the best cookie and brownie maker we know and in the 70s and 80s she would bring a batch of brownies to Utah Women's basketball games and put them under the bench for her favorite players. She was the best team mom for the Bees and Standard Optical.
Her being 93 years old, there are too many who preceded her in death to mention. But she is survived by her husband Bill and 4 children; Karen, Craig, Vicki and Jo, 4 grandchildren, Joshua (Scott) Meeks, Barbara (David) Grogan, Tracy (Jeremy) Jones, and Tyler (Kristen) Evans, 12 great grandchildren, Johnathon Grogan, Will Meeks, Nathan Grogan, Cooper Meeks, Carson Jones, Colton Jones, Jason Grogan, BJ Norman, Makayla Evans, Caden Evans, Camden Jones, and Brynnli Evans.
Thanks to all who have loved and cared for her over the years. Jonathan Olsen we think you are the reason she survived the Covid years. Thanks to those who helped her through the end, from the surgeon who repaired her broken hip, the Legacy Village staff who helped through her attempted recovery and Alpine Meadows for her final days. Special thanks to Active Hospice for their comfort and care for Bonnie and our whole family. You were the blessing we didn't know we needed.
In lieu of flowers, please go to a ball game.
Taco Bon's gourmet dugout is officially closed.
