Anna Marie Mallonee, a devoted wife, mother, and grandmother, passed away peacefully on April 30, 2026.
Anna Marie was born on February 8, 1937, in Lyons, Kansas, to Shirley and Vlesta (Vick) Hogue. Her early years were spent in Kansas, Colorado, and Wyoming, before her family eventually settled in Compton, California. She remembered having a simple childhood, spending her days reading, helping with yard work, and running through the neighborhood playing kick the can. From a young age Anna Marie developed a great love for reading, something that stayed with her throughout her life. She would often say "If you have a book, you're never truly alone."
She attended Compton High School, graduating in 1955. It was there she met her high school sweetheart, Lynn Mallonee, the love of her life. They were married on May 5, 1956, and spent nearly 70 years side by side, building a beautiful life.
In 1960, Lynn and Anna Marie chose to be baptized members of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. On November 4, 1961, they were sealed in the Los Angeles Temple.
Together they raised three children: Luanne, Linda, and Greg. While raising her young family and managing a busy home, Anna Marie made the decision to return to school. She attended Cerritos College, where she pursued nursing and graduated as valedictorian in 1974.
Anna Marie went on to work as a labor and delivery nurse at Kaiser Hospital in Bellflower for 18 years, a job she cherished and often spoke of fondly. She was deeply devoted to her work and proudly attended the births of all of her grandchildren, as well as many of her great-grandchildren.
Anna Marie found great joy in her church callings and faithfully served in various leadership roles, where her love and dedication led to many lasting friendships.
After retiring in 1993, Anna Marie and Lynn moved to West Jordan, Utah, where they continued to build their life surrounded by family.
Anna Marie's family was her greatest joy. She was a very involved mother and grandmother to 10 grandchildren, 28 great-grandchildren, and a great-great-grandchild on the way. Her great-grandchildren simply knew her as Grandma. After every visit, she would hand them a bag of treats and say, "Grandma loves you!" No one ever left without seeing her standing at the door, waving until they were out of sight.
Anna Marie had a deep appreciation for the beauty in the world. She could often be found walking around her yard, admiring her flowers and sharing those moments with her grandchildren. She was a true patriot and had a deep love for America. She loved surrounding herself with reminders of it, especially the American flag.
She was the life of the party and loved planning holiday and summer parties for her family.
She is survived by her children, Luanne Robertson (Brent), Linda Shoemake (Rusty), and Gregory Mallonee (Michelle).
She is preceded in death by her husband, Lynn Mallonee; her parents, Shirley and Vlesta Hogue; her sister, Margie Righettini; her brothers Kenneth, Teddy, and Tommy Hogue; and her great-grandson, Carter Stelter.
Our family is deeply grateful to the dedicated caregivers at The Legacy House of Taylorsville, Visiting Angels, and Ability Hospice for the compassion, friendship, and loving care they gave our mother. Their kindness, patience, and gentle support brought her comfort and dignity, and meant more to our family than words can express.
She will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved her.
