Our beloved mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother, Angela B. Newbold, passed away the morning of December 6, 2025. Although we greatly feel her loss, we are comforted knowing she is free from pain and illness and is now able to be reunited with loved ones who have gone before.
Angela was born August 28,1944, in Berlin, Germany, to Vera Giehr and Otto Bensch. She came to Utah in 1953, and spent her childhood in the Avenues, eventually moving to Bennion, Utah in her teens. She graduated from Granger High School. She married Roger LaMonte Newbold on November 1, 1962. They made their home in Bennion, raising their children Julie and Kimber. They later moved to Duchesne County, to their beloved Mountain.
Mom was a hard worker, and talented in many ways. She told stories of taking care of her younger brother, Norbert, milking their cow, and doing chores while her mother worked. She worked hard in school and excelled in music. Later in life she worked as a secretary for Fox Hills Elementary school.
Mom was a wonderful piano teacher and taught in her home for many years. She sang in, and conducted, countless church choirs and groups. She played piano and organ in church until just recently and was sad to have to stop for health reasons.
Mom and Dad were master gardeners, and their yard in Bennion was turned into beautiful gardens and lawns. Mom loved flowers and had them growing everywhere. They had a huge vegetable garden that they shared with family and friends, then preserved for their extensive food storage. The grandchildren all spent many hours playing and exploring the gardens and forest at Grandma and Grandpa's house. When they moved to their Mountain, Mom landscaped with wood, rocks, and flowers suited for the high desert climate, and the grandkids explored in the sagebrush and cedar.
Mom enjoyed the communities of Fruitland and Duchesne and made many new friends. She enjoyed outings and lunch dates, visits and calls from grandkids, cards and letters, and worshiping with her church community. She adored and cared for many dogs and cats during her life, and her beloved kitty, Sammy, passed just a couple of months ago. She lived with her daughter for the last few months of her life, and enjoyed music and singing until she passed.
Angela is survived by her daughter Julie Maughan and her husband Dennis, and her son Kimber. She is also survived by her 5 grandchildren:
Shelby Maughan (Sonia), Andrew Maughan (Kelsey), Mason Newbold (Heather), Brynn McBride (Josh), and Aubriesha Newbold; 3 great-grandchildren. She is preceded in death by her husband, parents, and brother. She will be greatly missed by her family and friends.
