Andrew Charles Ammon was born on September 17, 1964 in Torrence, California.
He died peacefully at home on July 1, 2025. He is survived by his son Aleczander C. Ammon, mother Barbara Portlock, and his sister Tina Roberts (Greg). He is preceded in death by his older brother James Ammon; had 5 nieces and 1 nephew, Katherine Yospe, Ashley Wilson, Carli Whitehead, Holly Soulie, Brooke McKeever & Darian Roberts.
The Ammon family moved from Los Angeles, California to Salt Lake City, Utah in February 1977. Prior to leave L.A. Andrew was learning to be a good surfer. He loved it. And quite good at it. He attended South High School from 1978-1982. He was quite popular, especially with the ladies.
He had a love for sports. Baseball being one of them. He played catcher in Little League.
A story our mother wanted to share.
When we lived in L.A. one particular day when Andy was playing baseball in the catcher's position, there was this really big kid who was a runner on 3rd base. The batter hit the ball in the infield and the player threw the ball to Andy. He caught the ball. The big kid plowed right into him and Andy fell backwards. He got the big guy out. Mom was worried that Andy was injured. He was okay. She was so proud of him.
He worked for American Airlines as a flight attendant for 15 years. He did the Washington DC to Los Angeles route often. He has met many celebrities on the flights. One of his favorites was Brooke Shield. After arriving L.A. she gave him a peck on the cheek and thanked him for a nice flight. Another favorite was Ellen Degeneres. He said that she made a 5 hour flight feel like and hour.
There will be a gravesite service at the Taylorsville cemetery on Thursday July 10 at Noon. Located on 4567 So. Redwood Rd.
There is a Go Fund Me account set up to help pay for Andrew's unexpected death. Titled Assist Andrew's Mom with Final expenses. Any amount will be greatly appreciated.
