Listen to Obituary

Alan Lanuza Quiliza passed away on March 6, 2026, in Murray, Utah holding the hands of his sweet wife Maria.

They truly were not ready, just yet, to say goodbye. Stage 4 liver cancer is never something you want to hear a doctor tell you nearly 7 months ago. However, despite a slim window of maybe 3 weeks with numerous tumors & treatments ahead, they pressed forward with every ounce of faith and prayers they and everyone around them could hope with & said we believe in miracles

Maybe 6+ months might not seem like a grand & glorious miracle to most people, but in times such as this, it is when we must stop and look deeper to sift through every single moment that you've shared with Alan, recent or past, and recognize the "beauty of all the many blessings within" every special moment that you shared with Alan; think of how your life has been enriched because of knowing him.

Alan and Maria were able to make the most of the short time they shared together. Having only met in 2022 through mutual friends/family as he was preparing to move to Utah, (online to begin with), that spark was real! They were married January 7, 2023. Their spark together was always recognizable in Alan's smile when he was with Maria!

Alan grew up in the Philippines. He is the son of Dionisio Sr. & Luzviminda Lanuza Quiliza who have both preceded him in death, as well as his brother Ariel.

Alan was blessed with 8 other siblings, including their spouses and families. Although Alan himself never had children, he loved his 29 nieces & nephews as if they were his own.

 Siblings:

Dionisio Jr. Quiliza & family

Amelia Franco & family

Arnold Quiliza & family

Ariel Quiliza & family

Annabelle Casinillo & family

Analiza Banaag & family

Alexander Quiliza & family

Allen Quiliza & family

His siblings recognize Alan as being a gentle, kind, sweet, giving & humble person, who always put his family first. He had characteristic traits they say, just like his mother's.

Kuya Alan -- his siblings call him (KOO-yuh), a Philippine meaning for older or big brother; a term of respect -- in the Philippines, always made certain that his parents, his siblings, and their families lived comfortably.

Alan worked with the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints through The Philippine Area Administration Office, also known as the PBO.

He was a project supervisor/consultant. He was known as Engineer Alan Quiliza.

He was always assigned in different regions all over the Philippines. Kuya Alan was in charge of the construction of meeting houses and chapels, whether in bigger cities, small towns or on remote islands. He worked with the PBO from the 1980's - 2009.

In 2009, he moved to the USA. His youngest brother Allen lived in Chico, California. He came and worked alongside his brother and his wife at Walmart. The 2 brothers hard work ethos quickly made them well known to management as the "A-Team!"

Eventually the family along with the famous "A-Team," were transferred to the Long Beach area and they continued to impress Walmart management there as well.

When yet one last transfer came about, Alan then chose to journey onto another road that took him to Tennessee for a while -- building friendships everywhere he went and sharing his infectiously warm and genuinely GIANT smile that he was almost never without!

He brought that incredible smile back West with him, as he settled here in West Jordan, Utah once again on a new journey building a new life here with Maria.

Although Alan might have seemed quiet and private, his humble, kind, and gracious demeanor made him easy to talk with and to be around. If you gained his trust, you knew you had a loyal and great friend for life. Maria and Alan were so similar this way and are a match made in heaven. We are so blessed by his example in our lives. Alan truly was a light that shined. He emulated brightly the example of our Eldest "Kuya", Jesus Christ. May we stop and recognize the many extra blessings -- those "micro miracles within our lives" -- that we gained by knowing him, or by stopping to observe the sweet, quiet things that Alan might have done during his life for you or for others you know, without any expectations of credit from anyone. He emulated, like we can too, our "Kuya" and Savior, Jesus Christ!
