Afton Earlene Austin (1931-2026)

Our sweet Angel mother, grandmother, great grandmother & great great grandmother, sister, and friend passed away peacefully on March 27, 2026.

Afton was born in Bacchus, Utah to Earl F. Jones & Mary Alice Meik on July 23,1931. Afton graduated from Cyprus High School.

She married her sweetheart Morgan Jay Austin on December 7, 1950 which was later solemnized in the Salt Lake LDS Temple. They made their home in Granger Utah and was an active member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints.

She worked for Granite School District Food Service for many years before her retirement. Family meant everything to her, and she loved to spend vacations and activities with them. Mom and Dad loved to travel and for a few years became Snowbirds in Arizona with dad's brother Fred. She loved to crochet and was very crafty. She made an afghan for every child and grandchild.

She is survived by her children: Dave(Jean), Jim(Kristy), Bryant, Dean(Cindy) Austin and Laurie(Scott) Mitchell. She has 21 grandchildren, 50 great children, 31 great great grandchildren, brother Brent Jones, and adopted sons Don Austin & Brett Clifford. Preceded in death by her eternal companion Morgan, parents, and siblings Roy Jones, Thelda Ewell, Margorie Street.

The family would like to thank Monument Health for the wonderful care and love they gave to our mother the last few months of her earthly life.

There will be a viewing on Monday, April 6, 2026 from 6pm to 8pm at McDougal Funeral Home: 4330 S Redwood Road, Taylorsville. A graveside service will be held at 12pm on Tuesday April 7, 2026 at Valley View Memorial Park: 4335 W 4100 S, West Valley Utah.
