Burial Vaults in Utah
In our effort to provide the best burial vaults in the Salt Lake City area, McDougal Funeral Home has chosen to use Wilbert Vault Company products. Established in 1880 by German immigrant Leo Haase, the company sought to provide concrete burial vaults. In 1913, Wilbert W. Haase, Leo’s nephew, assumed leadership of the company. Wilbert devised innovative fabrication methods and equipment to improve the vault product. In 1930, Wilbert travel to Egypt where he saw the recently discovered King Tut tomb. Wilbert was so impressed by the perfect preservation of Egyptian mummies, as well as the asphalt used by ancient Egyptians as a preservative, that he decided to line his burial vaults and give them extra protection from the ground weight and subsoil elements. It worked!
The industry took off with the new asphalt-lined burial vaults. By 1938, the new Wilbert Vault Company had become the world’s largest manufacturer of asphalt and concrete burial vaults.
What is a Burial Vault?
A burial vault is a lined and sealed outer receptacle that houses the casket. It protects the casket from the weight of the earth and heavy maintenance equipment that will pass over the grave. It also helps resist water and preserves the beauty of the cemetery or memorial park by preventing the ground from settling. Available in Salt Lake City, West Valley City, and Taylorsville, our burial vaults are fabricated with a minimum 5,000 psi concrete and are combined with various lining materials including bronze, copper, stainless steel, and high-impact plastics for strength, water resistance and elegance.
There are three types of protection offered by Wilbert Vault Company: Premium, Standard, and Basic.
Wilbert’s premium burial vaults provide excellent durability with superior long-lasting protection against subsoil elements and the weight of heavy cemetery maintenance equipment. The Wilbert Bronze® provides ultimate triple-reinforced protection. The Bronze Triune® and Copper Triune® vaults provide double-reinforced protection.
All premium protection products can be personalized with Wilbert Legacy Series™ prints, Wilbert Legacy Custom Series™ prints, Life’s Reflections® appliqués, or Life Expressions® emblems.
High-strength concrete, stainless steel, and high-impact plastic combine for durable inner protection in our middle-of-the-line double-reinforced products.
Double-reinforcement provides the casket with superior long-lasting protection against subsoil elements and the weight of heavy cemetery maintenance equipment.
All Triune® series burial vaults can be personalized.
Basic protection burial vaults are single-reinforced and feature concrete construction combined with plastic-reinforcement for strength.
Provides casket with protection against subsoil elements and the weight of heavy cemetery maintenance equipment.
Non-Sealed Burial Container
This is a single reinforced concrete burial container. This product is not sealed which simply provides protection against the earth weight as well as the weight of heavy cemetery maintenance equipment but does not protect against subsoil elements. This burial container is accepted by most city and private cemeteries. Please ask us for a list of these cemeteries.
Also available on some vaults is a Memorialization Plus™ capsule which stores a personal message to the loved one and an identification scroll in the carapace. At McDougal Funeral Home, we can assist you with this option.
