William Harold Monson

William H. Monson Bill William Bill Harold Monson, 82, of Salt Lake City, Utah, passed away Saturday, November 26, 2011 in Salt Lake City, Utah of natural causes. Bill was born August 20, 1929 in Esparto, California, son of George and Edith Coughtrey Monson. He served in the US Merchant Marines from 1945-1948 where he later became an active member of the US Marine Corps until he retired. Bill was an expert marksman and a recipient of the Purple Heart for bravery in the line of duty while serving tours in the Korean and Vietnam wars. On July 17, 1971 Bill married Betty Bolton in Reno, Nevada. The couple resided in Livermore, CA until they relocated to Ogden, Utah where Bill continued working until he retired in 1993 from the Federal Government. They then moved to LaVerkin, Utah to enjoy their retirement years together. Bill will always be remembered for his service, dedication and support to his family while always maintaining a great sense of humor. He enjoyed cooking and baking and often put together events for his local church with his beloved wife. He thrilled to the outdoors and being engaged in physical activity. He demonstrated this passion as he served as assistant scoutmaster for several years for his church. Bill always had a smile for everyone and looked to make light of any situation. His dedication to serving others made him loved by all who knew him. Surviving family include his sons, David (Sondra) Monson, LaVerkin, UT; and Daryl (Penny) Monson, Pocatello, ID; 4 grandchildren, Jeremy, Kelsey, Lacey and Jarod; 3 great-grandchildren; twin sister, Betty Pecoraro. Preceded in death by his wife; sisters, Muriel, Catherine, Joyce; and brother, Joseph. Bill s family wishes to thank all those who took care of him at the Veterans Nursing Home in Salt Lake City, UT. Graveside services will be held Wednesday, November 30, 2011, 10:00 a.m. in the Parowan City Cemetery. Arrangements under the direction of McDougal Funeral Home.
