Theron Hawkes Obray

May 12, 1928 — July 29, 2014

Our father, grandfather, great-grandfather, brother, uncle and friend, passed away at home July 29, 2014. Theron Hawkes Obray was born in Paradise, Utah, on May 12, 1928, to Ernest Sheldon and Kate Hawkes Obray. While living in Paradise he attended and graduated from South Cache High in 1946, and then entered the U.S. Army where he served faithfully from 1946-48. Returning home from his service, he resided in Idaho Falls where he met and married Rae Baum. They had one son, Danny Obray. They later divorced. Theron later met his sweetheart, Jolynn Smith, and they married June 3, 1955. Theron had many skills, one of which was dry walling. He was so good at it he turned it into a business and in1960 started Obray & Hilton Drywall. He was able to work with many young men and teach them the value of hard work. If there was one thing that brought a smile to his face was recollections of how hard he worked in life. One of his proudest accomplishments was shoveling out by hand the area below the house that became the basement of the home he and Jolynn purchased in Kearns. Hard work would pay off when he and his brother, Bryce, built the Obray Family cabin at Bear Lake where he would enjoy, take his boat and spend the day fishing, or packing up the grandkids to take for rides and tell them all about the Bear Lake Monster. Theron loved the outdoors whether it was fishing, hunting or traveling; he loved being outside. He like to consider himself "The Great Fisherman." His travels took him to many great places throughout the Western United States. Theron was an active member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and had a strong testimony of the gospel, which he enjoyed sharing through the callings he was able to hold that included Elders Quorum, Sunday School, High Priest Group Leader, Activities Committee and Bishopric. Theron is survived by his daughter, Janet (Wayne) Bodily; sons, Joel Obray and Kim (Sharon) Williamson; his companion of 13 years, Elda Grooms; 11 grandchildren, Greg (Stacey) Williamson, Julie Williamson, Katie Obray, Logan (Kim) Obray, Preston Obray, Dennis Obray, Valerie (Tyler Hutchins) Bodily, Melissa (Doug White) Bodily and Holly (Justin Lopez); 12 great grandchildren; sisters, Joyce C. Wood, Carole (Owen) Jones, Paula (Con) Bell; sister-in-law, Dorthy Obray. He was preceded in death by his wife, Jolynn Obray; son, Danny Obray; brothers, Ernest Jr. and Bryce Obray; sister, Kathryn Napper; and parents. Funeral services will be held Saturday, August 2, 2014, 10:00 a.m. at the Kearns 6th Ward, 4260 West 5215 South.
