Ruth LaVon Warr Curlis

May 30, 1925 — April 11, 2018

"Vonnie~Bonnie" LaVon was born in Granger, Utah on Memorial Day, May 30, 1925, daughter of Arthur Vern Warr and Ruth Elizabeth Hanson Warr. She attended Cyprus High School and Stevens Henager Business College. She worked at Remington Small Arms Plant during World War II with her Grandmother Warr, Mary Ellen Jackson Warr and her aunt Phyllis Warr Langdon, covering three generations of Warrs. She also worked at Woolworth's Store in Salt Lake City and the Paris Company Department Store. She was head of the departments at both places of work. She met Warren Curlis, who was in the army stationed at Camp Kearns, on his way overseas to the Pacific Theatre during the war. He returned to Salt Lake City, and on September 10, 1946, they were married and settled in St. Petersburg, Florida where their daughter Suzette was born. They moved to Salt Lake City in 1950, where their son Douglas was born. They then returned to St. Petersburg where the family lived for 16 years. She was active in the LDS Church and taught Primary in the Tampa Bay/St. Petersburg area. The family returned to Salt Lake City in 1962, where LaVon's father and Warren built their home on land that was settled by her great-grandfather Warr. She helped found Guardian Title Company of Utah and was receptionist there. She was very active participating in events and luncheons with banking and mortgage ladies. She was a member of The Ladies Auxiliary of Home Builders of Utah and was secretary. She retired from Guardian Title Company of Utah in 1980. After retirement, she loved keeping everything like new . . . it was hard work. Working in the yard, keeping the shrubbery and roses trimmed and she liked everything as perfect as was possible as she grew older. Some people stopped and asked who did the landscaping. She loved being with all of her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She was proud of every one of them. She is survived by her son Doug (Cindy); daughter Sue Halvorsen; five grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren; sister, June Merrill; and many nieces and nephews. Preceded in death by her husband, Warren; son-in-law Kent Halvorsen; grandson Douglas James Halvorsen.
