Maxine Moulton Webb

July 17, 1922 — April 24, 2015

Maxine peacefully left this world, at age 92, on Friday, April 24, 2015 surrounded by her children. She was born July 17, 1922, in Heber City, Utah, to Hyrum and Lillian Moulton. Maxine was the fifth of eleven children. She graduated from South High School in Salt Lake City and attended BYU where she met her husband, James Austin Owen. They were married in the Salt Lake LDS Temple. After supporting Jim through Western States Chiropractic College, Maxine became the secretary/bookkeeper of the chiropractic businesses they opened in Portland, Oregon. Maxine was mother to nine children and loved them all unconditionally. She kept her family connected through a monthly family newsletter which evolved into email, and then after 2011, she kept track of all the children and grandchildren's accomplishments on her iPad through Facebook. She made sure Owen family reunions happened every other year for more than twenty years. In 1974, the family moved to Leeds, Utah, where she was "general contractor" as they built their home. While Jim was on dialysis, she became his nurse. After Jim's death in 1979, Maxine remarried LaVarr B. Webb. They served together as missionaries for The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in New York. She helped LaVarr edit and publish many of his writings. After 20 years of marriage, LaVarr passed away and Maxine lived with her sister Evelyn McDougal. They contributed to LDS humanitarian services effort by making thousands of pieces of infant clothing. In 2005, Maxine moved to Perry, Utah, to be closer to family. Maxine loved her "Mormon" pioneer legacy and put together photos, histories and wonderful notebooks full of happy memories. She was active in the LDS Church and served faithfully in the Relief Society and Primary. She embroidered, crocheted and loved reading a good book. Maxine enjoyed cooking and would experiment with and collect recipes. Her children include, Ralph (Cathy) Owen of Vancouver, Wash., Cynthia (Mark) Weiss of Logan, Utah, Louise (David) Daniels of Perry, Utah, Sandra (Craig) Ostler of Pleasant Grove, Utah, Steven (Leslie) Owen of Coppell, Texas, Diane (Dana) Portnoy of Las Vegas, Nev., Donald (Kathryn) Owen of Lake Stevens, Wash., David (Michelle) Owen of St. George, Utah, and Teresa Owen (Lyon) of Eugene, Ore. Maxine is survived by her sister, Mardene Folkerson Provost; and brothers, Floyd, E.J., and Dale Moulton. She has 9 children, 56 grandchildren, and 68 great-grandchildren - with two more arriving in June. Special thanks to Laura Krause and Lori Gillies for their loving hospice service to our mother this past year. Services will be held Saturday, May 2, 2015, 11:00 a.m. at McDougal Funeral Home, 4330 South Redwood Road with a viewing, 9:30-10:45 that morning. Interment will be in the Salt Lake City Cemetery next to her husband, Jim, and near her Moulton family. In lieu of flowers, please consider donating to LDS Humanitarian Services.
