He was born October 23, 1941 in Provo, Utah and graduated from Brigham Young University and the University of Utah while pursuing his teaching degrees. He worked at the National Parks in Southern Utah during the summers to pay for his education and it was here that he first met Peggy. They began dating and were married on June 4, 1966 in the Manti Temple. After graduating, he began teaching at Stansbury Elementary in West Valley, where he taught for more than 30 years before retiring. Ray was known for and admired by many for his exceptional diligence. He was diagnosed with Type I Diabetes at age 12 and successfully managed the condition for 65 years. After having heart surgery in the late 1980's, he was often seen walking along the streets of West Valley. He exemplified such dedication throughout decades of church service, including his mission to Northern California, and while serving in several bishoprics and as a temple worker in the Jordan River Temple and Oquirrh Mountain Temple for over 20 years. Ray enjoyed traveling, reading, watching sports, working in his garden, indexing and family history, and playing games with his family. His greatest joy was his grandchildren and great-grandchildren. He was always humble and rarely mentioned any burdens he was called to bear. The loss of his first wife was an especially difficult trial for him, but he eventually found solace. He married Emily in 2011 and his final years included many wonderful experiences and relationships. Ray is survived by his wife, Emily Bronner; children, Cindy Hedenstrom (Alton) and Brent Terry; brothers, Dale (Barbara), Arlo (Michelle), Ross (Eileen), and Garth (Sheri); sisters, Gloria Geertsen (Rick), Nola Snelson (Steve), Rosanne Parker (Craig), Valene Hales (Ken), and Veone Bird (Lauren); six grandchildren, Courtney (Matt) Graves, Alyssa (Rolando) Diaz, Abby Hedenstrom, Lucy, Emmaline, and Edward Terry; three great-grandchildren, Brett, Reese, and Selena Graves; three step-children, Mark, Russell (Aubrey), and Elizabeth Woolcott; and four step-grandchildren, Aidan, Connor, Coby, and Rylie Woolcott. He was preceded in death by his parents, Dean Terry and Vilate Butterfield; and his wife, Peggy Broadbent. In lieu of flowers, donations should be made to the LDS Humanitarian Aid Fund. Funeral services will be held Wednesday, May 30th, 11:00 a.m. at the LDS Chapel at 2901 West 9000 South. Viewings will be held Tuesday, May 29th, 6-8:00 p.m. at McDougal Funeral Home, 4330 S.
