Nicholas Joseph DeBenedictis

January 16, 1935 — April 19, 2017

Taylorsville, Utah. Our beloved husband, father and grandpa peacefully moved on from this earthly life, at the age of 82, after a valiant two-year fight with dementia. Nick was born, in Queens, New York, to Domenico and Martha DeBenedictis. Nick ended up crashing the same Christmas dance as Marilyn Baumgart and it was love at first sight. They danced only with each other the entire evening. On January 23, 1960, Nick married the beautiful love of his life in Brooklyn. Nick and Marilyn started their family in New York and eventually moved to Utah in 1972. Together they raised four children and spent 57 wonderful years loving them. Nick served his country for two years as a reservist in the Marines where he learned many invaluable traits. As a young child, Nick loved to watch and play baseball. He spent most summer days in his youth watching his favorite baseball team, the Brooklyn Dodgers, at Ebbets Field. He became an avid fan and supporter of Taylorsville baseball as he passed his love of the game onto his sons and grandson and relished watching them coach and play. He also enjoyed bowling, watching the New York-football Giants, New York Mets, Utah Jazz and the Salt Lake Golden Eagles. Nick loved to spend weekends on the golf course with his friends and family. Dad was lucky enough to make three holes-in-one. Nick was a hard-working, successful, small business owner both in New York and Utah. Next to his family, his Italian restaurant (St. Augustines) and distribution business (Beni Bakery Distributors) were his pride and joy. He was willing to do anything to support his family and community. The ladies in his life were his greatest love. He always showed the utmost respect for his mother, Martha; sister, Angelina; wife, Marilyn; daughter, Darlene; daughter-in-law, Dez; and granddaughter, Natasha. Dad will be greatly missed by everyone and we know we will see him again. We love you, dad! Nick is survived by his loving wife, Marilyn; children Dave, Glenn, Darlene and Scott (Dez). His two precious grandchildren, Natasha (Makoa) Mack and Braden. His brothers, Sonny (Rose) and Otto (Diann). Brother-in-law, Jerry (Angelina, deceased) and many nieces, nephews and in-laws. He was preceded in death by his parents and sister, Angelina. A special thanks to his sisters-in-law, Karen and Lynda and brother-in-law, Roger, Legacy Memory Care, hospice and all those who assisted with his care. Funeral services will be held Friday, April 28, at 1:00 pm, at McDougal Funeral Home, 4330 S. Redwood Rd, Taylorsville, UT, where viewings will be held on Thursday, April 27, from 6-8 pm and prior to services on Friday, April 28, from 12-12:45 p.m. Nick will be laid to rest at the Utah Veterans Cemetery & Memorial Park, 17111 S 1700 W, Bluffdale, UT.
