Melvin and Charlotte DeBoie, both 76, recently passed away in Salt Lake City, Utah of natural causes. A Memorial Service will begin at 3pm on June 22, 2018 at the Utah Veteran's Cemetery and Memorial Park in Bluffdale, Utah. A graveside flag service will be conducted by the United States Army following the Memorial Service. McDougal Funeral Home is assisting with arrangements. They are survived by their daughter Geri DeBoie Greene (Sam) and grandchildren Brendan, Amy, Camron and Danika. They are also survived by Mel's sister Annette Holmes and Charlotte's sister Dottie Pambrun and their families. Charlotte Ann Coffin DeBoie was born June 14, 1941 to Hugh and Mildred Coffin in La Grande, Oregon. She passed away in Salt Lake City, Utah on May 21, 2018. Charlotte was raised in Summerville, Oregon on Pumpkin Ridge and graduated from Imbler High School in 1959. Charlotte was a member of The First Christian Church for many years. She enjoyed singing in the choir and working with the Youth Group. Charlotte worked in the banking field for many years, but the job that brought her the most joy and satisfaction was working for Southwest Airlines as a training supervisor. Here she enjoyed the opportunities for travel and made many friends who appreciated her gentle and kind spirit. Melvin Erle DeBoie was born September 3, 1941 to Erle and June DeBoie in La Grande, Oregon. He passed away in Salt Lake City, Utah on May 26, 2018. Mel grew up in La Grande and graduated from La Grande High School in 1959. Mel was also a member of The First Christian Church. Mel joined the United States Army in 1960 and was stationed in Korea. He enjoyed many sports, especially a love for fishing, nurtured by his fond memories of Wallowa Lake. Mel worked in several fields, but at the time of his retirement, he had been a fireplace and stove sales man for many years. Mel and Charlotte met at a dance and started dating before they could even drive. They were engaged their senior year of high school and married November 11, 1960 in La Grande, Oregon. Mel and Charlotte's inseparable bond supported their shared adventures. They never hesitated to explore new locales, living in Washington, Oregon, Montana, Idaho, Texas and Utah where they always found neighbors and communities to appreciate and share with visiting family. Mel and Charlotte enjoyed time with their extended families, friends, their many pets and traveling. They traveled to many destinations in the states including Hawaii, but the places they enjoyed the most was going "home" to La Grande and the Oregon Coast. After almost 57 years of marriage, the thought of being separated on this earth was unbearable; they passed away five days apart.
