Karl Bruce Isom

Karl Bruce Isom, born August 9, 1935 in St George Utah, to DelRoy and Elida SnowIsom, the oldest of six children. He attended East High School where he met hissweetheart, Evadna Rae White. As a lifelong member of the LDS Church he faithfullyserved a mission to Eastern Canada. Upon his return he married his sweetheart inthe Salt Lake Temple in 1957. After completing a Bachelors Degree in ChemicalEngineering at the University of Utah he earned his Masters and PhD from NorthwesternUniversity. He used this education through a long and distinguished career with HerculesAerospace as a Research and Development Engineer. The majority of his tenurewith Hercules was at the Bacchus plant in Magna Utah but included some time at theAlleghany Ballistics Lab in West Virginia. He enjoyed his career for the challenges itpresented and the people he got to know. He was recognized for his contributions to thedefense of America in the area of Rocket Propellant development and his expertise in thescience of Heat Transfer. While working in West Virginia he lived in Maryland wherehe served as a District President, presiding over branches in Maryland, West Virginiaand Virginia. This was valuable experience applied while serving in multiple Bishoprics.His love of the gospel was demonstrated by his missionary work. He spent most of hislife sharing and teaching the principles of the gospel by which he lived. In his personallife he was known as the genius who could fix anything and took good care of his homeas well as those of the neighbors and anyone else he knew. In all walks of life he wasknown for his humility, intellect, fairness, service and integrity. He enjoyed travelingand doing activities with his family including camping, hunting and motorcycling. He passed away quietly September 10, 2014 holding his wife's hand. He is survived by his loving wife of 57 years; 6 children: Mike (Shelly), Karla Berhold(Matthew), Brian (Jennifer), Taylor (Shelly), Tera, Kent (Wendy); 26 grandchildren; 5 great-grandchildren (soon to be 7); brother, Ken; sisters, DelRae Menlove, Rosemary Young, Laraine Blackham and Christy Verhaaren. Funeral services will be held Friday, September 19, 2014, 11:00 a.m. at the LDS Chapel, 3835 South 2850 West, West Valley City, Utah. Viewings will be held Thursday, September 18, 2014, 6-8 p.m. at McDougal Funeral Home, 4330 South Redwood Road and Friday at the church, 10-10:45 a.m. Interment, Salt Lake City Cemetery.
