Joseph Whitaker Smith

Joseph Whitaker Smith died the 19th of June, 2016 in Highland, Utah after struggling 18 years from a cancer related illness. He was born 8 Nov. 1929 in Salt Lake City, Utah to Samuel Schwartz Smith and Jeannette Whitaker Smith. He married his sweetheart, Beth Park Smith, in the Salt Lake Temple on 6 Sept. 1951 and has been married for 67 years. He was a member of the LDS Church where he was Bishop and Stake President, loving the people he served. He was called on 4 missions, three with his wife. Joseph taught mathematics in the Granite School District for 25 years and also enjoyed farming. For the last 20 years he has lived in Thatcher, Idaho, and has grown to love the people there. He is survived by his wife, Beth. Siblings: Hyrum, John, Esther, Joan, and Gladys. Children: Steven (Raquel), Kathy (Jim), Marianne (Paul), Jody (Randy), Jackie (Brent), Michelle (Ron), Debbie (Ken), Richard (Connie), and Patty (Kyle). He also has 70 grandchildren and 125 great-grandchildren. He was loved by family and friends and we will miss him dearly. A viewing will be held Friday, 6:00 8:00 p.m. at McDougal Funeral Home, 4330 S. Redwood Road and again on Saturday, 9:30 10:45 am at the LDS Chapel, 4986 South Valois Drive.
